when Congress/President can go on vacation.   Especially Congress for 5 weeks.   During our 2 World Wars did they do the same thing?

The USG has been involved in a world war for 20+ years spanning 3 presidents.  When the news reports that a "coalition" of nations are droning, bombing, arming, sanctioning, and invading multiple Middle Eastern countries and now Russia.  What exactly do you call that?  The world has been fighting US hegemony for two decades now.  Because the opposition force isn't as technologically advanced as the US, and they use primitive tactics...The USG labels them "terrorists".

Wow, now we are invading Russia? Did we finally finish and install the SDI or do you have super secret leaked intel that says Russia decommissioned all those big a** ICBMs?

First we were funding, arming and training ISIS, now this...

I thought you would have known the USG and EU have imposed sanctions on Russia.

I'm sure you read that Victoria Nuland was involved in orchestrating the coup in Ukraine.  It went over well when the soviets did the same in Cuba and they wanted to put nukes in Cuba.  Castro is still on the USG enemies list, 50 years later.

BTW...You did read the ISIS is using U.S. weapons?  I know you dismissed the reports that the USG was training Syrian rebels in Jordan.  Oh Yeaaaaah...The USG was arming and training the "other" rebels...Riiiiiiiiiight...Because they all have ID's.  Need to pass the Rebel ID Act, to make sure "terrorists" aren't switching allegiances.

And now it's reported ISIS are using drones.  This has to be the most sophisticated rag tag bunch of "terrorists" in the entire middle east.

when Congress/President can go on vacation.   Especially Congress for 5 weeks.   During our 2 World Wars did they do the same thing?

During the heat of the Civil War, the 38th Congress was in session:
Special: March 4, 1863 – March 14, 1863            "On vacation" for 10 months in 1863 while key battles
1st: December 7, 1863 – July 4, 1864                 like Vicksburg & Gettysburg were being fought
2nd: December 5, 1864 – March 4, 1865              Only went "on vacation" for 5 months in 1864

During the Spanish-American War, the 55th Congress was in session:
Special: March 4, 1897 – March 10, 1897
1st: March 15, 1897 – July 24, 1897
2nd: December 6, 1897 – July 8, 1898           The War ran from April 25 to August 12 so they were "on vaca                                                                  tion" for only the last month of the war.
3rd: December 5, 1898 – March 3, 1899

Durring World War I, the 65th Congress was in session:
Special: March 5, 1917 – March 16, 1917
1st: April 2, 1917 – October 6, 1917
2nd: December 3, 1917 – November 21, 1918
3rd: December 2, 1918 – March 3, 1919        The dates in between session - they were "on vacation."

During World War II, the 77th Congress was in session:
1st: January 3, 1941 – January 2, 1942
2nd: January 5, 1942 – December 16, 1942             As you can see - just a few days vacation for Christmas

and the 78th was in session:
1st: January 6, 1943 – December 21, 1943
2nd: January 10, 1944 – December 19, 1944

and the 79th was in session:
1st: January 3, 1945 – December 21, 1945
2nd: January 14, 1946 – August 2, 1946

During the Korean War, the 82nd Congress was in session:
1st: January 3, 1951 – October 20, 1951              Congress took a 2 1/2 month vacation in middle of war.
2nd: January 8, 1952 – July 7, 1952

Now the tricky part is that even when they are "in session" -- they are not necessarily meeting every day.  They have to "gavel in" and "gavel out" every so many days in order to stay "in session."  They would only need a quorum to do that every few days.

The "August recess" or, to be more accurate, "Summer Recess" actually lasted for 4 to 6 months during the peacetime Congresses before 1934 -- In some years beginning as early as May or June and lasting to the first week in December.

the president doesn't have to return from vacation while the president's 'buddies' plan a booby trap for one of the
other kids on the block. Besides the President's buddies will keep the President informed through either facebook, skype or email.
Maybe one of them will actually pick up the phone and call.
However, when the president returns hopefully there are pictures to 'share' showing the booby trap and the 'kid's' reaction.

Yes, that tyrant Assad that allegedly used chemical weapons against his people and crossed the "red line", now the USG is talking about bombing the same enemy Assad is fighting.

Yup, the USG has been in the Middle East since 1991 and even earlier.  With the use of drones, no fly zones, and even invading armies.  This ISIS captured a third of Syria and then rolls into Iraq allegedly capturing weapons from the US trained and armed Iraqi Army.

I don't think Tom Clancy could have written something so outrageous.

Remember this picture, yup that is McCain talking to the leader of ISIS, but I guess we shouldn't ask questions

Quoted Text
The man of real interest in the photo is the same one John is looking at and speaking with, the seated man in the dark shirt. His name is Ibrahim al-Badri most commonly known by the nom de guerre Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi: leader of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (“ISIS”) and now the self-proclaimed Caliph Ibrahim, leader of all the Muslims in the world.
