As long as the US picks the targets and is aiming their weapons at the people threatening the Iraq government the USG set up, the US is not a tyrant, but rather peacekeepers.  But...When Saddam picked his target and aimed his weapons at those that threatened his government, he was an evil dictator.

Moral to the story - the US can violently suppress political opposition to preserve the governments they determine.  If done without US permission, you will be labelled an evil dictator and disposed of.(unless the dictator was chosen by the USG)

Washington and London Ignored Warnings about the ISIS Offensive in Iraq

ERBIL, Iraq — For months before the fall of Mosul, Iraq’s second-largest city, Washington and London were getting detailed warnings about jihadist plans to exploit Sunni resentment toward Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki and launch an ambitious takeover of northern and western Iraq.

Kurdish military sources say the strategy of the ultra-radical Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS) was telegraphed long in advance. The Kurds, who have their own autonomous region in northern Iraq and their own armed forces, monitored developing ties between the jihadists and tribal leaders as well as growing contacts with former Iraqi military officers.

The Kurds became especially alarmed at signs that ISIS had already formed a shadow government in Mosul, weeks before initiating the carefully planned takeover of the city 10 days ago. According to the same Kurdish military sources it was accomplished with ease and without serious fighting after local Iraqi commanders agreed to withdraw.

The prime minister of the semi-autonomous Kurdistan region, Nechirvan Barzani, says he warned Baghdad and the United States months ago about the threat ISIS posed to Iraq and the group’s plan to launch an insurgency across Iraq. The Kurds even offered to participate in a joint military operation with Baghdad against the jihadists.

Washington didn’t respond—a claim that will fuel Republican charges that the Obama administration has been dangerously disengaged from the Middle East. Iraqi Prime Minister al-Maliki dismissed the warnings, saying everything was under control.

"If they hadn't gone to war in Iraq, none of this would be happening. Mr. Cheney has
been incredibly adroit for the last six years or so attacking the administration for not doing
an adequate job of cleaning up the mess that he made. And I think it's unseemly. And I give
President Bush, by the way, a lot of credit for trying to stay out of this debate and letting
other people work through it."

-- Bill Clinton, in an interview with NBC News.

Have Liz and Dick Cheney Jumped the Shark?
Robert Spenser (24) Younger Viewpoint
Published June 26, 2014 08:00PM EDT
Recently former Vice President Dick Cheney and his daughter Liz Cheney posted a video for their new group The Alliance for a Strong America where they blasted current President Barack Obama for the current situation in Iraq. Sadly, it was not a parody video. This video and their statements since its release show both how bad their cognitive dissonance is and how irrelevant they should be.

Misplaced Blame
So, let's recap. Who exactly signed the treaty to have American troops withdraw from Iraq? Was it Obama? No, it was, you guessed it, George W. Bush. That makes Dick responsible too by proxy. This treaty painted Obama into a bad corner, and the current situation just makes it look worse. But when are politics ever about common sense and the truth about what happened? No, it's devolved even more into the worst finger-pointing and partisan politics that America has ever seen.

Who Benefited?
Oh yes, let's not forget that Dick also had his former company, Halliburton, make a near-mint on the Iraq war. It was Bush and his vice-president that led the country into the war in the first place with lies about weapons of mass destruction. They squandered all the good will the world had shown them after 9/11 by their brusque behavior. Let's also not forget that these two also plunged the country from a budget surplus into a deep, deep amount of debt by funding not one but two wars that no one but their war-profiteer buddies wanted. So, for Dick and Liz to stand there and point the finger at Obama saying that he made mistakes is the textbook example of the pot calling the kettle black.

No Angel
It's not like I'm a huge fan of Obama either. He's made his share of missteps, but part of that can be blamed on the largely intractable Republican Party who seem determined to make his life miserable without a care of how it affects the American people. The President deserves blame, but it's far from needing to fall squarely on his shoulders. People need to remember that.

No Cancellation Notice
The former Vice President has proven himself to be an angry, immoral person and for him to suddenly surface and make these accusations shows A) how short he thinks the American public's attention span is and B) how desperate he is to get himself back into the limelight. He and his daughter should just slink back into the muck and keep quiet, but sadly, I don't see that happening in a country that still gives Sarah Palin some kind of voice. This show isn't quite going off the air yet.

Americans Still Blame Bush for Iraq
A new Quinnipiac poll finds that 58% of Americans believe President Obama's decision to withdraw
troops from Iraq in 2011 was the right thing to do.

In contrast, 61% said that George W. Bush's decision to invade in 2003 was the wrong thing to do
and 51% of voters blame Bush for the current problems in Iraq.

Ahh, 100% blame the US government for the illegal war of aggression!  Great poll.  Too bad Obama didn't charge Bush with a war crime.  Nah...He can't, he's still sending the military into a country that was invaded illegally.  USA-USA-ISA
