More Americans want gridlock.  The divide is deepening.  The political class polarized America into so many hyphenated groups, the 2 parties can not pull them together politically. People have stopped looking toward the government to resolve divides, and are realizing the parties claiming to fix the divides are actually creating them.  Case and point, the media is claiming Cantor lost because of illegal immigration reform.(shhhh.,.but that is political code for supporting Hispanics, and the "tea party" are a bunch of bigots waking up everyday hating Hispanics)

I don't buy that he lost because of immigration.  Polls showed that 78% of the voters in his district supported immigration reform and it was an overwhelmingly Republican district.

Two other explanations are more plausible:
1)  Voters are allowed to vote in another party's primary (pretty stupid if you ask me)  and it is entirely plausible that a number of Democrats purposely voted for Brat  .... because A) it would be a HUGE thing to knock off the #2 Republican in the U.S. House  and B) Brat would be easier to defeat in the General Election than Cantor.   (Although the Virginia 7th is so overwhelmingly Republican, the Democrats would have to run an extremely strong, charismatic, well-funded candidate --something Jack Trammell may not be able to amount to.)
2) Cantor had been criticized for neglecting his district and focusing too much on his job as Majority Leader and running around the country setting himself up to run for a higher position.   I don't know Mr. Cantor so I can't say that he is an arrogant incumbent politician who grew detached from his district.  There certainly are plenty of arrogant incumbent politicians serving in public office (local, state and federal) right in our own backyard.

Meet Jack Trammell, the Democrat who will face David Brat, the man who beat Eric Cantor

BY MIKE DEBONIS June 11 at 1:10 PM  -- Washington Post

On Monday, Jack Trammell was a little-known employee of Randolph-Macon College newly minted as the sacrificial-lamb Democratic candidate certain to be trounced by House Majority Leader Eric Cantor in the heavily Republican 7th District.

A day later, Trammell’s political prospects had transformed with Cantor’s loss to David A. Brat. He remained, however, little known.

With Cantor’s loss, Trammell suddenly finds himself on a much more level playing field — facing, in Brat, a fellow Randolph-Macon professor and a candidate with a much leaner bankroll than Cantor’s.

In a statement Tuesday night, Trammell said Cantor’s loss proved that “Virginians are hungry for a radical change from the dysfunctional and reckless politics being practiced by those in Congress.”

“In the coming months, I look forward to a spirited campaign where can talk about the issues that matter to our community, and how we can get Congress re-focused on the priorities that truly matter to us,” he said.

John Kent Trammell, 50, assumed the mantle of Democratic nominee Monday only after being nominated by a party committee. No candidates had entered the party’s primary.

On his initial campaign Web site, Trammell sketched out a brief campaign platform focusing on the reform of student loans and special education and greater access to higher education.

A statement from Trammell posted Tuesday night repeatedly invoked President John F. Kennedy: “My experience suggests to me that America continues to be a place where others look to for inspired leadership and innovation, a place where opportunity is not defined by how much wealth one accumulates, or what your family tree looks like, but where the quality of one’s ideas and the breadth of one’s character still matter.”

But by Wednesday morning, the site had been taken down, replaced by a more slickly designed page featuring only a brief biography, a sign-up form for his e-mail list and a link to donate to his campaign.

According to articles posted on the Randolph-Macon web site, Trammell joined the college’s faculty in 2000 after doing graduate work at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. He has directed the school’s disability support services department and its honors program and serves as an associate professor of sociology, specializing in disability issues in higher education.

Trammell is also a frequently published author, having most recently published “The Richmond Slave Trade: The Economic Backbone of The Old Dominion” in 2012. He has also served as president of the Blue Ridge Virginia Writer’s Club.

A Kentucky native, according to his campaign biography, Trammell lives on a small farm in Louisa County with his wife and seven children.

Cantor Loses–By 11 Million Voters. Now They’re Pretending It Wasn’t About Amnesty
By Ann Coulter on June 11, 2014
Never Trust a Liberal Over Three-Especially a Republican Economics professor Dave Brat crushed House Majority Leader Eric Cantor in the Republican primary Tuesday night, in a campaign that was mostly about Cantor’s supporting Amnesty for 11 million illegal aliens. This marks the first time a U.S. House majority leader has ever lost a primary election. His crushing defeat reinforces a central point: Whenever the voters know an election is about immigration, they will always vote against more immigration—especially Amnesty.

Cantor spent more than $5 million on his campaign. Brat spent less than $150,000. But Brat made the election about Cantor’s support for Amnesty, so he won.

The pro-Amnesty crowd–i.e., everyone except the American people–promptly lost its collective mind. The Amnesty shills went on the attack, insisting that Cantor’s historic defeat had nothing to do amnesty. Brat’s triumph was touted as simply a victory for the “Tea Party.”

Of course, these are the same people who also try to persuade us that Amnesty isn’t “Amnesty,” illegal aliens aren’t “illegal aliens” (they’re “undocumented workers“!), and that there are 30 million jobs Americans won’t do at any price.

In fact, however, the Tea Party had nothing to do with Brat’s victory. Only the small, local Tea Party groups stand for anything anymore, but they’re as different from the Main Stream Media-recognized “Tea Party” as lay Catholics are from the Catholic bishops..........

Who Is David Brat???
(Just another TeaBagger...  a not very smart TeaBagger)
Quoted Text

In A Brat Interview On MSNBC by Chuck Todd:
Todd asked Brat a simple foreign policy question about arming the Syrian rebels, and this was
the answer that he got:
“Hey, Chuck, I just thought today we were going to chat about the celebratory aspect.
I’d love to go through all this, but my mind is just…I love all the policy questions. I’m happy to
do more, but I just wanted to talk about the victory.”

(YUP! Another Mental Midget TeaBagger)

Quoted Text
When asked about the Minimum Wage, Brat's response:
(Ya gonna love this one)
“Um, I don’t have a well crafted response on that one. All I know is if you take
the long run graph over 200 years of your wage rate, it cannot differ from your
productivity. Right?
So you can’t make up wage rates.”
He said that he would love to pay the people in sub-Saharan Africa one hundred dollars an hour.

If your question is addressed to me, amnesty was irrelevant in this election.

Box, it wasn't that long ago you were calling people running as republicans, just republicans.  I thought libertarians had to run as part of the libertarian party to be libertarians?  You should stop reading Mother Jones, they are misleading their readers by labeling Republicans as "libertarians".

I thought you would be glad to see Cantor lose.  Surprised to see you left wingers attack Brat.

I can only hope!  Keep on driving that divide...Disenfranchise MORE people. More and more American people are realizing, Eric Cantor, Hillary Clinton, John Boehner, John McCain, Barack Obama, George Bush, are all the same.  Of course Cantor will position himself to benefit from his ability to influence and benefit from the powers of the federal government.  If it means tanking the election to assure democrats retain power, he'll do it.  Don't think the people that belong in these powerful positions in the Democrat and Republican Party is because they support some ideology.  They do it for the power and personal greed, that is their ideology.

Let's hope you are right with your assessment box.👍

It may be that the House GOP is coalescing behind a new leader very quickly and the Cantor defeat may be only a minor "bump" on the road to the GOP winning BIG in the Mid Terms Elections.

Kevin McCarthy lone contender for U.S. House No. 2 job after rivals quit race
BY SUSAN CORNWELL AND DAVID LAWDER
WASHINGTON Thu Jun 12, 2014 10:05pm EDT

(Reuters) - California lawmaker Kevin McCarthy emerged as the sole contender in the Republican contest to fill one of the top positions in the U.S. Congress after two candidates dropped out on Thursday, but some lawmakers said McCarthy was not conservative enough and hoped others would jump in the race.

McCarthy, the House majority whip, has been asking other lawmakers to support his bid to become House of Representatives majority leader to succeed Eric Cantor, who is stepping down after his upset primary election defeat to a little-known challenger from the populist Tea Party movement. [ID:nL2N0OS0ZB]

Representative Pete Sessions of Texas, who chairs the House Rules Committee, dropped out of the race to replace Cantor on Thursday evening, saying that to continue running "would have created unnecessary and painful division within our party."

Sessions' statement came after several lawmakers told reporters they thought McCarthy had the edge in the party's June 19 election for the No. 2 post in the House. House Financial Services Committee Chairman Jeb Hensarling of Texas opted out of the running earlier on Thursday. [ID:L2N0OT0TL]McCarthy, the No. 3 ranking House Republican, who is in charge of lining up support for legislation, grabbed early momentum by picking up some endorsements. One was from Cantor, who will serve out the rest of his congressional term through the end of the year.

Representative Lynn Westmoreland of Georgia, who attended a meeting of Republicans from Southern states that was addressed by McCarthy and Sessions on Thursday morning, said he would back McCarthy because of his leadership experience, even though he believes a Southern Republican should hold one of the party's top House positions.

"I just think that Kevin will do a great job as a leader. He’s kind of battle-tested, being in that whip's position and that’s what it’s going to take to get us through. He’s a good guy," Westmoreland told reporters.

Oklahoma Representative Tom Cole, also a McCarthy supporter, said the Californian was personally popular. "He tends to be a unifier not a divider," Cole said.

Both McCarthy and Sessions are seen as mainstream conservatives and allies of House Speaker John Boehner, leading to some grumbling from the party's right flank that leaders were moving too quickly to keep one of their candidates from running an effective campaign.

"We don’t have the lineup of conservative, rule-of-law candidates in place. So we’re asking for a delay in this vote, so that there’s time for the conference to come to its senses and evaluate all the opportunities we have going forward,” said Representative Steve King of Iowa, a conservative Tea Party favorite.

King also said he hoped Representative Jim Jordan from Ohio, also popular with the Tea Party, would get in the race.

IMMIGRATION ISSUE

King and Minnesota Representative Michele Bachmann, another Tea Party favorite, both said they would not back any candidate who favored a path to citizenship - which they term "amnesty" - for immigrants who entered the United States illegally.

In Cantor's Virginia district campaign, Tea Party challenger David Brat, a political novice and economics professor, had portrayed Cantor as too soft on immigration reform and succeeded in toppling the House majority leader.

Idaho Representative Raul Labrador, prominent among conservatives willing to defy the Republican establishment, was getting support from other members to jump into the majority leader race, according to a source familiar with his thinking.

Labrador abandoned bipartisan House talks on immigration last year and has said he does not think this year is the right time for the issue either.

The election represents a high-wire act for Boehner. He would like to see a new team installed that will help him move legislation and avoid fiscal crises, but one that also will make Tea Party supporters in Congress feel they have a voice.

If House conservatives remain angry over the fight to fill Cantor's post, they could challenge Boehner's bid to remain as speaker later this year.

The Ohio Republican survived a challenge from the right after the 2012 congressional elections.

Boehner said he could work with "whoever gets elected."

A lineup of contenders also emerged for McCarthy's post as majority whip. Lawmakers said Representatives Marlin Stutzman of Indiana, Steve Scalise of Louisiana and Peter Roskam of Illinois have all begun lobbying colleagues for the whip's job.
