I think it's lit more by evidence he walked away from his post than the 5 for 1 trade with the Taliban. I doubt he'll get a court marshal, but I guessing a dishonorable or general discharge would be appropriate at the very least...after all, six soldiers died in the search for him.

In June 2011 the Army announced that it had promoted Bergdahl to the rank of sergeant. Bergdahl, now 27, is assigned to the 1st Battalion, 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division at Fort Richardson, now Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, in Alaska.

I understand the "no soldier left behind" stuff, I really do..But this had disaster written all over it..from the 5 for 1 swap, to what the Pentagon had concluded about Bergdahl and his disappearance, to his father and some of the causes he seems to support....Unless this is part of something bigger...

Is it common practice for the army to risk lives, and use resources to go after and "rescue" a deserter?
Can't speak for Army, but never heard of that being the case in Marines...specifically know of an AWOL in Vietnam... we didn't actively go after him, but then again, he didn't run over to the Cong...he was holed up in a hooker house when the MP's found him.
Personally, if I had deserted in combat, I'm not so sure I want US forces looking for me or finding me...I'd be looking to hide and get as far away and lost as possible.
This whole thing stinks of something, but I can't put my finger on it. Father growing beard and learning to speak Afghan; son not able to properly communicate in English anymore; father building a tent in the wilderness to help son reenter civilian life; etc., etc.....something stinks pretty bad. Obama phuqued up on this one big time...sorry! Someone needs to be hung out to dry over this fiasco.
PS - and Cissy, just so you know, I am not sitting back quietly and only bitching on the forum. I just finished writing my letters outlining my disgust and feelings over this whole fiasco to each Senator and Congressman serving NY.....I would ask others to do the same.
