The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral
philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.

I cannot imagine a God who rewards and punishes the objects of his creation, whose purposes
are modeled after our own -- a God, in short, who is but a reflection of human frailty.
Neither can I believe that the individual survives the death of his body, although feeble souls
harbor such thoughts through fear or ridiculous egotisms.

- Albert Einstein,

Box, we get it... You're an atheist... congratulations...
Although, you quote religious leaders (like the Pope) when its convenient to support your political or social beliefs..otherwise, you dismiss them as purveyors of Fantasy...

Lob a few more flame grenades across the bow, you'll get the religious folk to get their blood pressure up sooner or later.

I wonder why TBird feels so threatened by a new topic on this board?
Is this an interesting topic??? Maybe you don't think so but I do.  If you don't want to post on the
topic, then don't... no one is forcing you to take part.

If you do, then feel free to do so.
I have my personal views, but so do we all.

"Lob a few grenades???" Again... why does a discussion on a topic cause you to panic???

I support Gandhi, The Deli Lama, our present pope, even Mother Teresa... I may not share their beliefs
but I do support much of their views and programs.  These leaders do have differences in their beliefs
but they also have common views on the human race and civil rights.  Do I have to believe in
every word they say to find some common ground among these religious leaders???

You seem to have a very thin skin when it comes to discussing any view other than your own.

“When people ask me if a god created the universe, I tell them that the
question itself makes no sense. Time didn’t exist before the big bang, so there is
no time for god to make the universe in. It’s like asking directions to the edge of
the earth; The Earth is a sphere; it doesn’t have an edge; so looking for it is a futile
exercise. We are each free to believe what we want, and it’s my view that the simplest
explanation is; there is no god. No one created our universe, and no one directs
our fate. This leads me to a profound realization; There is probably no heaven,
and no afterlife either. We have this one life to appreciate the grand design of
the universe, and for that I am extremely grateful.”

― Stephen Hawking

Not threatened at all Box or... panicked, sorry to disappoint you. You have no idea whether I'm catholic, Protestant, Jewish, or an Atheist like you...and frankly, I'll keep it that way. I'm an observer and commenter...
What I see from you that you get off on posting opinions that you know full well will rankle a good number of members of this board.
Bottom line, that's the only reason you are here...You don't live in Rotterdam, or anywhere close to it...
You found a place to get your jollies on..I'm just calling you out for the game most of us know you are playing.

Many on this board don't live in Rotterdam... but you single me out???
I worked in Rotterdam for many years... ate there, played there, and have friends there.

Again, you seem so threatened by this post... you are even defending "unknown" posters who (according
to you) will be "rankled" discussing the afterlife.  (No one is forcing "the rankled" to take part)

My view is no more valid than anyone elses.  Like the "MAP THREAD" that I posted, a discussion on
everyday topics taken from a different point of view will often lead to a different conclusion.

You are correct... I have no idea if you are "catholic, Protestant, Jewish, or an Atheist" nor
do I care.  That's your business.
You have no idea if I'm "catholic, Protestant, Jewish, or an Atheist" or anything else.

You post:  "I'm an observer and commenter..." then why are you so upset...

I'm not upset...that's your impression... a wrong one.
I'm actually humored a bit

If you read a little of this board, you'll know the set up, for the most part...

It's you and Joebxr vs almost everyone else...on these topics, just to name a few

Politics
Guns
The Economy and who is to blame...(or isn't)
Religion
Obama
Bush
Iraq
Afghanistan

The playbook usually goes like this:

You post a new topic with content diametrically opposed to the majority on this board..or you'll post something new to an existing thread.
If the target(s) don't respond, you'll post again in the same thread so it appears at the top of the forum list as well as the last subject talked about in the community view... Prime example is this thread.. You could have posted all three quotes in one post, but you use the above method for maximum exposure.. smart, but pretty transparent.

- Albert Einstein,

but what is funny is we allow fellow humans to have this throne....with multiple personalities

1. war
2. psychiatry
3. government
4. medicine
etc etc.........

egotisms doesn't even begin to describe our 'monuments' around the globe that aren't rooted in any religion more
powerful than....government.

...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......

The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.

Whatever you do, don't criticize the fraud called democracy, the government, AND ESPECIALLY MILITARY SERVICE.  That is the holy trinity of the state and all 3 must be worshiped.  If you do not worship all 3, you will be called a hater, a traitor, and committing an act of treason.

WOAH Tbird...check your facts before you drag others into your discussion and place blame.
I doubt you will not find me AGAINST everyone else on
Politics -have never claimed affiliation and remain neutral; any comments would be directed at false postings
Guns - believe some controls need to be applied, but far from the strict ones enacted in NYS or by Fe
The Economy and who is to blame...(or isn't)...it's not who, but what caused the meltdown
Religion - never entered into these discussions; my beliefs are mine
Obama - think he gets bad rap beyond what he should, but he's far from great President
Bush - well, here we may have an issue....guy was the worst and I hate he brought
our country into Iraq for his personal reasons and took his eye off the real need
Iraq - said it before...we never should have gone there...check my postings
Afghanistan - not sure if I ever posted on this topic, but we should have gone there
for one goal, UBL, then got the hell out after we got him

There you have it, now show me how it's me vs. everyone else!
