you shouldn't have to opt OUT.....that is manipulation.....even companies that force you to do that get in trouble with the AG....

it's not right.....kinda like the book clubs by mail and record companies by mail that send you the 'next set unless you opt out'....

it's FREAKING STUPID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Burnt out bulb. The government has NOT used force.  It is a USER FEE.  If you want use the service - PAY FOR IT.  If you don't want to use the service - opt out.  But don't make the residents who mulch, compost or otherwise take care of their own yard waste pay for the service YOU use.

I want less government, too.  They should just eliminate the brush & yard waste pickup completely.

it is a fee if it is provided by a business

it is a TAX if it is provide for by the government

if I read this years budget correctly - public servants are collecting yard waste

Maybe REMS should pick up the yard waste

Once again HYPOCRITE !!!!!!!!!!!

Explain it DV.   The city government uses FORCE to make the financially people of the city pay for Proctors, the hair salon, the hotel, the Bow Tie, the appliance store, the bakery, even when people do NOT want to go to these places!!!!

You won't address that use of FORCE by the government will you!   The city government USES FORCE and if the people don't pay the tax bills of downtown, then the government seizes the homes of the homeowners.

Of course, DV, you will NOT address that, will you.

How about a user fee for downtown, DV??????   You won't answer that will you?   Cluck cluck cluck

At last when people pay for yard waste pick up through tax or a fee, they are getting something for what they pay.  But the government's used of FORCE to pay for downtown, what are the people getting?   Huh?

In exchange for paying for downtown, the people are getting:
Falling tax base
Falling home values
Falling home sales
Falling home sale prices
Increased taxes but reduced services
Increased blight
Increase in abandoned properties

And these above lead to what?
More falling tax base
More falling home values
More falling home sales
More falling home sale prices
More increases in taxes and more reduced services

Round and round we go and DV will NOT respond and address the facts

It is user fee.  Those who choose to use the service will pay for the service.

So, what is to prevent five neighbors from getting together to each pitch in ten bucks then dragging their rubbish to the designated payer? Better yet, why doesn't the town cut back instead of raising taxes?  When I have fiscal problems, I cut back not take from others.  A friend of mine and several of his co-workers  just took a $10,000 pay cut jut to keep their jobs.  Me, I'm going to let my leaves blow into the street where the cars will whisk them downwind.  Sticks and branches, I'll cut them up and take them on my nightly walks.

it is a tax

"a tax  - an amount of money that a government requires people to pay, and that is used to pay for the things done by the government"

it would be a fee in i "opted in" and opting out is not a requirement

no one asks me to opt out of driving - dmv collects fees

for maximum effect to be noticed by those who run this town drop off your sh!t in front of the basketball courts on curry rd - a great spot for them to blow around

or

you could use the town dump next to district 2

or

any of the towns many triangles that are not posted no dumping

Taxation is the use of force.

Taking taxes from homeowners and giving it to corporate welfare whores is also use of force.

You want homeowners to pay for things themselves.

You want homeowners to pay for corporate handouts too.

You hold homeowners to a standard that you allow corporations to bypass.

I didn't opt out for the yard waste pick up. This morning I noticed that there were more yard waste bags in front of my house that weren't mine.

It would appear that you have been selected as the designated leaf bag drop off point or your neighborhood.

They came around this morning to pick up the bags. When they were picking mine up, I went outside and told them that all of those bags were not mine. They said that they expected this to happen.

Based on DV's assertion that it's a user fee that you CHOOSE to pay for the service,

Well, then I want to opt out of paying the portion of my taxes that goes to pay for snow plowing.  Instead, I will CHOOSE to drive through the snow in front of my house on my way to wherever.

I do NOT go to sleep at the Hampton hotel downotown, WHY then am I FORCED to pay for the hotel?   Both my tax money to build it, AND then I pay the county portion of the taxes through my county tax bill!

Ditto Proctors
Ditto Villa Itallia
Ditto the Bow Tie

Ditto ALL of Galesi properties!!!!!!!!!!!

You're busted, DV, your argument does NOT hold up, not unless I and EACH homeowner can CHOOSE not to pay a protion of their taxes that goes to cover the taxes of all downtown property.!!!!!!!!!!

Let's see what the NON-taxpayer says about that!

Keep paying the fee, dozens of people are depending on you to share the wealth.

(no, it wasn't me)
