Contrary to popular misconception, the entire world is not under complete radar coverage.
In addition, tracking mechanisms in planes can be overridden manually and/or turned off.
So is it a matter of the plane being lost as you title this thread...or would it be more appropriate
to state how can we not be able to find this plane after a whole week has gone by....even at that,
this is far from a simple task and could turn into an impossibility and the plane never being found.

Heart felt thoughts to the families of the people on that plane!

Bumble....Really?

If I leave my cell at home, I cannot be tracked.

If I pay in cash, I cannot be traced.

If I'm a pilot that wants to jack a plane, I shut off everything that I know of that tracks my plane so I cannot be found.

The ONLY reason why we know that this plane kept flying for 7+ hours after contact lost, is because Rolls Royce fitted a satellite uplink in the engines. It 'pings' the satellite every hour in order to upload engine performance data.

Remember, it took 5 days to start finding wreckage and bodies from the Air France Flight 447 (with everything on and transmitting) that crashed in the Atlantic, June 2009....It took 2 years to find the 'black boxes'.

I just hope that we don't find out it's fate because some seat cushion washes up on some Indian shore 10 years from now because Mr. Disgruntled pilot 'soft landed' the plane at random point in the middle of nowhere ocean.

The Simple Explanation Might Be The Right One

Perhaps the simple explanation is still the correct one. That's what one airline pilot thinks, anyway.

Quoted Text
The left turn is the key here. Zaharie Ahmad Shah was a very experienced senior captain
with 18,000 hours of flight time. We old pilots were drilled to know what is the closest airport of
safe harbor while in cruise. Airports behind us, airports abeam us, and airports ahead of us. They’re
always in our head. Always. If something happens, you don’t want to be thinking about what are
you going to do–you already know what you are going to do. When I saw that left turn with a
direct heading, I instinctively knew he was heading for an airport. He was taking a direct route
to Palau Langkawi, a 13,000-foot airstrip with an approach over water and no obstacles. The
captain did not turn back to Kuala Lampur because he knew he had 8,000-foot ridges to cross.
He knew the terrain was friendlier toward Langkawi, which also was closer.

Take a look at this airport on Google Earth. The pilot did all the right things. He was confronted
by some major event onboard that made him make an immediate turn to the closest, safest airport.

For me, the loss of transponders and communications makes perfect sense in a fire. And there
most likely was an electrical fire. In the case of a fire, the first response is to pull the main
busses and restore circuits one by one until you have isolated the bad one. If they pulled
the busses, the plane would go silent. It probably was a serious event and the flight crew
was occupied with controlling the plane and trying to fight the fire. Aviate, navigate, and
lastly, communicate is the mantra in such situations.

What I think happened is the flight crew was overcome by smoke and the plane continued
on the heading, probably on George (autopilot), until it ran out of fuel or the fire destroyed
the control surfaces and it crashed. You will find it along that route–looking elsewhere is
pointless.

The thing that makes me skeptical about this theory is that the left turn was preprogrammed at 1:07am,
and the final communications from the co-pilot to the tower was 12 mins later at 1:19. If they had an issue
(per the theory above), then why not tell the tower of the problem in the communications that took place
AFTER the turn to the left?

Some military probably shot it down and now they are trying to expand the search radius in hopes the wreckage can not be recovered, some to this day swear they saw a missile hit TWA 800 and I believe them.

Respect to the pilot and his opinion, but it doesn't make any sense.

A) If there was a fire, a Mayday would have been sent out at the first sign of smoke. It must have been a intelligent fire as well since it just took out the tracking systems

B) The Boeing 777 has a stellar record. In it's entire history (since 1995) there has only been two crashes....One in England that was because of a throttle problem (0 deaths) and the other was in San Fran because of pilot error (3 deaths)

Nope...I'm still going with Mr. Disgruntled pilot suicide.

LOL....Yeah and the missile that hit it let it fly for 7+hrs and disabled all the tracking equipment in the cockpit.

It's the latest in smart munitions technology.

So they say it flew for 7 hours, why would a suicidal pilot punch in new coordinates and head off course instead of just diving it nose 1st into the ground. By the way tracking and communication jamming has been out of a loooooong time, check out how long our USS Liberty was under attack for without being able to use its communications. You can also look into how Russia and Iran took control over our drones and safely landed them. Also where was the copilot when all this was taking place, did that ever cross your mind, was he also on a suicidal mission.
