Making it somewhat dffcult, for some,in a way,may be the general idea as the process may be a discouragement/hardship (or apathy) to go through with the opt-out.   Could that be the idea since signing UP for the service process might be easier.   Would that process require a notarization?

We have never used the town's brush clean-up service but have paid for it out of our taxes for years.  At least now, we have the opportunity to opt out of the service and the fee.  However, the fee only covers a portion of the cost of the service - so we will still be paying for unmandated and, in our humble opinion, unnecessary town service.

Voices in your head don't qualify you as a "we."

This is a discussion of homeowners fees.

I own a home.

I do not own any trees.

But they want to charge me to take away other people's leaves that blow in my yard?

Sure, that's fair.

We paid our taxes in January which was based on a budget that included the cost of the highway department which is tasked with picking up yard waste.  SO why do we pay again this year?   The town's budget included the cost of pickup, right?  Or was this fee one of those things that was kept a secret in the budget, like Stratton's raise he tried to sneak through outout the taxpayers in the city knowing about it?

Rottendamians are pretty much laughing. Most are going to opt out and are NOT going to rake leaves and/or bag them. They said...'let the wind blow them'. They also are going to try to opt out of the taxes in the budget that is already for picking up yard waste! Some said they were discussing it with an attorney.

this is gonna be very interesting! Pass the pop corn.

There's nothing like a pile of leaves to plug the storm drains during a heavy rain.

Folks don't care! Many have said they will NOT rake leaves and will let them blow where they may.

Other neighborhoods are coming together and designating 1 property for pick up. They will bring all their bags to a neighbor's home. 10 homes, 1 pick up = $5/property.

THEN....the town will say that they will decrease yard pick up since so may opted out.....not worth weekly pick ups......JUST WATCH!

They are also pissed at the new water fee. Doesn't ROTTENdam sell their water....no? If they do, why not increase those fees?

IMHO the town raised the rates too high too fast. Maybe they should have raised the water bill to $50 and leave pickup to $25 instead of being so greedy while at the same time giving raises to others without any input from the residents.
