Glad you saved that child.  Most hero's go unnoticed in everyday life.  You no doubt encounter them
every day but unless it's pointed out to you, you'd never know about it.

Did it feel good to save that kid???  I assume that you didn't have to do it... but after you did, you
must have felt a inner reward for your actions.  If your deed was 'heroic' it doesn't have to be
publicised or announced at the SOTU address to be valid.  As long as you know it, is all that matters.

That we can agree on.

Unfortunately, there have been videos over the past few years, showing people in need of help, laying on a busy city sidewalk, while people walk by as if it is not their job to help.  That I blame on this culture of designating state authority to respond to their fellow man in need of help.  I feel people are abdicating their responsibility to help their fellow man, because they believe there is a professional class that will take care of it.  It's the "not my job" attitude.  When the first responders earn nearly double the salary of the average person they are hired to respond to, I think people have a tendency to  believe they paid for a service and it's no longer their job to help.  Not to mention, helping a stranger is taking on a huge liability if you harm the person you are helping.

Who risked more?
Henry risked nothing but a little time and money.  Sgt Jack-Off risked his life.  I know, it's a distinction
that is beyond you.

Look at it this way...
The difference between being committed and being involved.
When you have ham and eggs for breakfast,
the chicken was 'involved'...
the pig was "committed"!

risking 'more' depends on what the definition of the 'more' is....and it's ALL SUBJECTIVE.....

if someone with 5 minutes to spare before being late to work risking firing, stops to help someone in trouble etc, and gets
fired for it because they are late. was that enough of a risk?

YOU WOULDN'T EVEN CARE....

heros aren't just state figures...state hero figures held up are no different than religious 'saints'

must be nice and clean to have such a narrow view of what to believe/worship...makes for less choices with which to
wrestle....

...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......

The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.
