Saw that a few days ago...The only problem is energy needs to be used to refine the algae...it's the Ethanol argument all over again. |

Saw that a few days ago...The only problem is energy needs to be used to refine the algae...it's the Ethanol argument all over again.
As the technology improves the cost should drop and as the price of crude increases, the process will become more attractive. There is a limited supply of crude oil, but an unlimited supply of man made algae. |

There is a limited supply of crude oil, but an unlimited supply of man made algae.
Very true, but the refined oil from algae is still a hydrocarbon, is still "burned", and still contributes to the carbon output that is claimed to be the trigger for climate change. It will be interesting to see how much support this gets from the feds as it solves one problem while continuing to contribute to another.. |

I agree. When you look at the final result, you need to compare the total carbon footprint of drilling, shipping, refining etc of conventional oil products, compared to the one from algae oil. |
