I would strongly disagree with the contention that America was not founded as a Christian nation that would tolerate all religious expression.  Those who believe that America was NOT founded as a Christian nation are just proving that 50+ years of secular humanist extreme radical leftism has succeeded in brainwashing a vast chink of the American population.

Totally disagree.

America may have been founded by Christians, but they explicitly stated that no laws should be enacted regarding any sort of regulation, opinion or support of any religion.

You must be reading a completely different version of the U.S. Constitution,  The 1st Amendment very clearly states:   "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
Congress can't establish an official national religion nor can it pass any law which prohibits the free exercise of any religion.  We are perfectly free to practice our various religions and to base our public opinions - even when we are elected to public office - based on our religion.  All the BULLSHIT nonsense that leftist politicians and so-called libertarians spout about keeping religion personal is just that BULLSHIT nonsense.
Quite frankly, I do not trust a person serving or running for public office who claims that he/she believes something personally but publicly has to take a different stand.  I would never and have never voted for such politicians.
No where in the U.S. Constitution does it say what you claim about opinion or support of any religion.

You can support and vote for anyone you want.....that's politics. But to believe that america is a christian nation is a joke!! Look around this country and tell anyone what there is that is 'christian' about it. What in this country even resembles christianity? NOTHING! You don't seem to understand that the church resembles and preaches the law of GOV ALMIGHTY....not GOD ALMIGHTY. One can hardly tell the difference between 'church and state' anymore. The mastermind behind the 'blend' was an evil genius to say the least. You will never hear the mention of gay marriage, abortion, divorce or even anti-war... etc......from any pulpit. You DO hear about it from GOV ALMIGHTY'S oval office.

AMERICA IS NOT A CHRISTIAN NATION....PERIOD!!

Yes, God created the universe and everything in it, then wrote a book and claimed Jews(13 million) the chosen people and put arbitrary lines on a map and said that land was theirs.  God seems bit of a micromanager.(and discriminatory)

You don't seem to understand my statement -- which was -- America was FOUNDED as a Christian nation.  And it most certainly was founded by Christians (of many denominations) on Christian values/principles and with the intent of preserving and promoting Christian values/principles.  If over the past 2 and a 1/4 centuries the nation has veered off that path, it is because secular humanists, the extreme left and others have attempted to take the nation off that noble path.
I am not sure what church you attend but you will most certainly hear preaching regarding Church teaching on gay marriage, abortion, divorce and anti-war from many pulpits.  Pulpits where dedicated clergy are not afraid to stand up to the demi-gods of extreme leftist political correctness and the travesty of secular humanism.
America was FOUNDED as a Christian nation tolerant of all religious expression -- and most of us pray that it will always remain so.

~ Nowhere in either the Old or New Testaments is "abortion" forbidden.  All sorts of horrible
acts are explicitly condemned and/or proscribed, but not abortion.

Quoted Text
Our Founding Fathers knew how dangerous theocracies could be. They
gave us a constitutional democracy in large part to protect minorities from the
yearnings of a religious majority. Their design of a secular state, with no religious
belief receiving preference over any other, should be celebrated common ground
for all Americans, whether conservative or liberal, religious or secular.

The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral
philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.

America was FOUNDED as a Christian nation tolerant of all religious expression -- and most of us pray that it will always remain so.

you say......'will always REMAIN so'.......
and again......AMERICA is NOT a Christian nation...nothing to 'remain'
and again.....you can't tell the difference between church and state...they are both one in the same.
and again.....if churches start to collectively preach against abortion, gay issues, anti-war, divorce...blah blah blah....well they are now considered 'political/government issues'. A church can lose it's tax exemption for preaching against what GOV ALMIGHTY has given it's blessings on.
I believe we have already had a test in that matter with the IRS.

The churches sold their soul to GOV ALMIGHTY decades ago. How many religious leaders have met with, had dinner with, went to the white house to meet with GOV ALMIGHTY? Graham, the pope, dali lama, warren....and the list goes on. Christians pledge allegiance to the flag in the house of GOD and sing 'government songs' during services!! What the hell was that all about?

NOPE....not a christian nation....no sign of it....ANYWHERE!!!

It is a moot point!

Perhaps if churches stayed clear of...and chose to SEPARATE themselves from GOV ALMIGHTY.....their pews might be fuller today. The church leaders took their directions (and tax money) from GOV ALMIGHTY and the flock followed. The church got lazy and weak with no leadership. Blame the church not the politicians or the left or the right. The church became the harlot and sold herself!
