To me, people may have differing opinions about war and veterans, but Schenectady's was veterans (residents of the city, they lived here and paid taxes here) deserve the recognition from our city government that other veterans get in other places. If our local government was on some kind of austerity budget, fine, but there's all this wild spending, and then when it comes to something for the people, crickets chirping. I think one of the problems we've had as a city is that our own government looks down on us. Even our wildly popular Christmas parade, they changed that to make it subordinate to King Tut's agenda. Tuesday in the Park? That was Schenectadians coming together and enjoying our city. That was gotten rid of. Albany's veterans got a parade. We don't have enough people on the payroll that somebody could've put this together? We have some fine marching bands in the area, and the kids were off school. I wish the electorate would learn to ignore these "leaders" the way our "leaders" ignore us. |

Nope don't hate, just don't see the glorification some get especially when a conflict has nothing to do with us
Ok, lets see if Henry actually believes his own words:Henry you are a scummy Welfare Queen. We Taxpayers feed clothe and house you Henry. We pay your medical care and your benefits while you chase imiginary Obama threats. Henry waves his stupid TeaBagger flags and slam your dick against the US flag.
Henry, how about you get your hand out of our pockets and get a F**kin JobSounds like "HATE" to me! Maybe Henry is so full of "HATE" that he no longer recognizes it! |

The American Legions used to hold a little service at memorial park, I'm not sure if they did it this year or not. But you're right this city isn't going to do anything, I don't think they ever did. |

The first page of a letter from Edna Pilling, a teacher living in Scotia, to Private Joseph Memelo, written on Armistice Day, November 11, 1918. Pilling describes the celebration in Schenectady. "At 3 or thereabouts this morning, bells and whistles made things lively - and things have been lively ever since," Pilling writes. "Stores, schools, shops, everything closed. The streets crowded. Parades as early as 8 o'clock this morning, and still more parades. The Italian parade was especially fine . . . It has been a beautiful November day - full of sunshine and warmth - a fitting day for so much joy" (Letter from the Larry Hart Collection). http://gremsdoolittlelibrary.blogspot.com/2011/11/celebrating-veterans-day.html |

BOTTOM LINE..............Veterans day was CREATED to justify and glorify war....PERIOD!! Right along with the star spangled banner!! It was created to justify the acts of war that WE inflict on other non-threatening countries. Usually third world countries that don't have squat!!!
Like I said....the other countries must be laughing at how America ACTUALLY CELEBRATES the fact that we killed their innocent country folk and ravaged their country!!
O-M-G!!
It is an embarrassment and shameful!!
Pass the pop corn and the NOBEL PEACE PRIZE!!....WHAT A JOKE! |

Veterans Day was created to honor the service and sacrifice of our countries veterans. You can use the day for a political football, if you wish, but that doesn't change the meaning of the day.
Quoted Text
An Act (52 Stat. 351; 5 U. S. Code, Sec. 87a) approved May 13, 1938, made the 11th of November in each year a legal holiday—a day to be dedicated to the cause of world peace and to be thereafter celebrated and known as "Armistice Day. " Armistice Day was primarily a day set aside to honor veterans of World War I, the 83rd Congress, at the urging of the veterans service organizations, amended the Act of 1938 by striking out the word "Armistice" and inserting in its place the word "Veterans." With the approval of this legislation (Public Law 380) on June 1, 1954, November 11th became a day to honor American veterans of all wars.

Quite different than Bumbler's definition...why am I not surprised! FACT!
Quoted Text
http://www.va.gov/opa/vetsday/vetdayhistory.aspHistory of Veterans Day World War I – known at the time as “The Great War” - officially ended when the Treaty of Versailles was signed on June 28, 1919, in the Palace of Versailles outside the town of Versailles, France. However, fighting ceased seven months earlier when an armistice, or temporary cessation of hostilities, between the Allied nations and Germany went into effect on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. For that reason, November 11, 1918, is generally regarded as the end of “the war to end all wars.” In November 1919, President Wilson proclaimed November 11 as the first commemoration of Armistice Day with the following words: "To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country’s service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations…" The original concept for the celebration was for a day observed with parades and public meetings and a brief suspension of business beginning at 11:00 a.m.

Veteran's day glorifies war.
Nowadays talking about peace makes you a potential terrorist threat.
Box accuses people who want peace of being haters of the veterans.
Those that kill and support the killers are the haters of those who seek peaceful actions..
Hating death and destruction is sanity.
Hating those who want peace is a paranoia induced fear reaction. |

I'll post the reason for Vets day again, for those who have a comprehension problem:
Quoted Text
An Act (52 Stat. 351; 5 U. S. Some have their own take on Veterans day... "A day to push your own private political agenda at the expense of America's Veterans." |

You want peace and you have vehemently expressed your hate for Veterans! So you seem to fit the claim accurately! Why do you think that just because a person is a Veteran that they do not want peace? Is it because of your narrow minded view of us, that you clump us into some category that glorifies your view? |

I wish that I had started a collection of dumb military posts from Cicero. I'd have quite a collection that would show just how misguided Cicero's view actually is on the military and military life.
Cicero is like a guy who's never seen a bicycle, but he's heard a lot from people who have ridden bikes, and he even read a book about how to ride one. Cissy thinks he's got the whole concept, UNTIL HE ACTUALLY GETS ON THE BIKE AND TRIES TO RIDE IT. He's got it all in his head... yet he keeps crashing the bike with no idea just what he's doing wrong.
