If I'm not mistaken, the STAR WARS program intent was to detonate the missile upon launch (basically bombing their own location), and Regan intended to have satellites positioned over Russia at all times.
The Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI...aka Star Wars) was specifically geared to defeat the Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD) scenario.
It was imagined to be a two stage system with the primary being a network of satellites armed with lasers to destroy ICBM warheads in sub-orbit and a secondary ground based system of missiles to get everything else.
The Soviets freaked out about it.

YUP! The US has a technological advantage on this weapon but SDI it was never developed or deployed. Much of the knowledge was used in defensive missiles such as discussed above for the AEGIS cruisers.

No self-respecting HIGH RANKING Military person in a HIGH SECURITY position would divulge non-public defense knowledge to civilians, even family. Doing so is not an Article 15 violation, it is a crimial offense subjecting them to forfeiture of pay and rank, jail time and dishonorable discharge at minimum..... So why wouldn't they....becuase no one achieves HIGH RANKING and then does such a thing to jeopardize what they have worked for....simple as that! These are not contract people in civilian psotion of low ranking cross dressing military losers.
PS - Snowden was a "contractor" and also not a HIGH RANKING military person in a HIGH SECURITY position!!!!

I'm not talking about giving out our nuclear arming codes or anything like that but I'm sure they talk to family about projects they're working on. It probably goes something like this
