The government governs through fear.

They fear the the people, so they govern by ginning up fear and promising protection.

Whether its mandatory Heath insurance(or you will die), gun background checks(or you will die), terror lockdown drills in elementary schools(or your kids will die).

It is always fear, that's what laws are, threats of punishment to change behavior.

More and more people are not fearing the state created boogie men.

Today's government is probably the most paranoid it's been since WW2.

The government has created so many enemies they can't even keep track of them.

They are now even scouring themselves to find potential enemies from within their own network of pre-emptive spying and paranoia.

Remember the good old days when the only enemies were the commies and the hippies?

Now they label people enemies for typing or for attempted possession of  Constitutional rights.
