And the citizen that owns a well drilling company that will drill a well for a fee, so they don't need to depend on the public water fountain is a dirty greedy capitalist.  He deserves no special recognition for dedicating his life to providing water.

1. Well drillers do die in industrial accidents (OSHA regulations -GOVT- does help protect them) but no one
is actively trying to KILL THEM.  In the normal course of their day, they should never encounter someone
trying to kill or wound them.

2. US military, police and a few other similar jobs do regularly face an active threat to their lives, often for
extended periods lasting hours days and even weeks.

Cicero already knows this fact but he opts to play ignorant of these issues.

The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral
philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.

CISSY....you never answered my question...why is that?

I don't know if he was referring to active duty.  But he was bragging about his compensation, not his service and sacrifice to some patriotic cause.  That was clear.  The sick part is, his job was to participate in the funerals of the returning dead soldiers.

The soldier travels thousands of miles away to put themselves in a position to be an enemy on foreign soil.

But Box already knows this fact, he participated in it.

Your word, not mine... "SPECIAL".  What does "SPECIAL" mean?

Dictionary.com
special

1.of a distinct or particular kind or character
2.being a particular one; particular, individual, or certain
3.pertaining or peculiar to a particular person, thing, instance, etc.; distinctive; unique
4.having a specific or particular function, purpose, etc.
5.distinguished or different from what is ordinary or usual

IMO, numbers 1, 4 and 5 do apply to Veterans.

That can apply for anyone with a unique trade or craft, a mason, logger, artist all have a special purpose, do you believe they should also have a unique license?

So let's see...if Box or I said something like that (the BRAG), you would jump in our $hit and rant all over.
Did you challenge your friend and get truth out of him?  Apparently not...WHY!!!
Why wouldn't yu challenge him as you do the members of this forum and why wouldn't
you get in his face about the Government waste he enjoys, etc.?   JUST ASKING!

JUST BECAUSE SISSY SAYS SO DOESN'T MAKE IT SO...BUT HE THINKS IT DOES!!!!!

It wasn't the social setting for that type of conversation.   I was a guest at the party, the person wasn't my friend.  I just listened.  And again, his emphasis was on his compensation, nothing about volunteering to protect my freedom.  At least he was honest.

So out of context, this man was discussing his economic benefits.  Sounds like a normal conversation
that you might hear at a gathering, from anyone of any occupation.

If discussing how dangerous his job was, he might have compared his occupation to a "water well
driller" or a "housewife" and the fact that he puts his life on the line to "protect Cicero's freedom"
might have come up.

Many jobs and workers put their safety on the job everyday, it seems only 2 professions cry about it and want special treatment even when off the job and retired. If I volunteered to be a logger which is even more dangerous then law enforcement why shouldn't I get special treatment, the reason is because they don't want it, they're not little whiny bitches crying about how hard their jobs are.

OK... one more time, just for those who have a problem understanding:

No one goes into the woods logging expecting to be shot ON PURPOSE.
Accidents may happen.  The logger himself does have some control over those accidents but
accidents will happen and he may be killed anyway.

If the logger went into the woods and the trees were actively trying to kill the logger, then
there might be some comparison to the Vet or the Police.
(This IS a moot point, we all know, but simple minds are grasping at straws to promote their failed view)

I thought there were no economic benefits?  You just got done telling me soldiers serve as a duty, not compensation.  Which is it box, is the military a service or an occupation?  I agree with your above post. It's an occupation.

Oh.  I must have missed my own post.
Please show my post where I stated that:
1 there are no economic benefits to military service
and
2 that soldiers serve as a duty not compensation.

Cicero just listed the reasons HE'D think that someone would join the military... for money (shows how
little he knows about the military)
As an E4 corporal in a combat zone, when I was in, you'd make $165 a month including combat pay.
That's not an 8 hour a day job, but a 24 hour a day job.
There is no going home, or watching tv, or gettin a cold one from the fridge... It was a 24 hour a
day operation.
The vast majority got No Pension, No ROTC tuition assistance, but many got wounds, burns and
broken bones.

So even in the 60's, when you could easily earn $165 a week for a 40 hour week, Military pay was
about $.30 cents an hour.

Yea Cicero.  It was for the   money!

So a casualty rate only matters on how the casualty happened, somehow 1 cop killed on duty is worse then 10 loggers who died by accident? So again what you are saying is there is a higher class of people, some lives are worth more then others and they deserve special treatment...gotcha.

Clearly my post shows an economic benefit.  So again ask...
