Two bald eagles were seen soaring over the Upper Union neighborhood, just a short while ago. If anyone believes in omens, maybe this is a good sign?

Eagles are common along the Mohawk River.  I've often seen them near the rock cut west of Scotia and
soaring just west of Amsterdam along RT 5.

One day when driving down Truax road and waiting for traffic to turn left onto Rt 5, I saw an eagle flying
up from the river with a large fish in it's talons.  He was holding the fish with one claw, then grabbed it
with his other and turned the fish so that it was head first to make it more aerodynamic in flight.

Two years ago there was a family of Eagles nesting on Scout Island on the Sacandaga.
I've also seen an eagle while traveling at dusk on sleds on Sacandaga.  The eagle was making
an easy meal from picking up scraps of gutted fish after an ice fishing contest.

Bald eagles are easy to identify if you get close enough to see their head and tail color.  A very
white head and tail, a short body compared to it's large wingspan, and their habit of soaring for
long distances without flapping their wings make them easier to spot.  They are primarily fish
eaters so it's not surprising to see them near any body of water.

The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral
philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.

It was refreshing, usually the large birds flying over my house are whirly birds.

Are you sure that the birds weren't vultures preparing to feed on the carcass that is Schenectady?

The vultures fly over, but even vultures will not set foot here.

They'll eat rotting food, but not poisoned food
