CAMBRIDGE - The police chief says he’s uprooted a major marijuana growing operation in the center of town.

It took police all afternoon to remove the plants, hydration hoses, and infrared lights from 7 South Park Street – four houses down from the intersection with Main Street.

The husband and wife suspects stayed home all afternoon as everything was dismantled.

Cambridge Police Chief George Bell says the address had been under investigation for quite some time.

“High speed ventilators. We could hear them running. We just couldn’t see the room. It wasn’t like, wide open. We kept feeling our way around the wall…There was a trap door. It looked like a shelf, numerous shelves. We just touched it and the door swung open. They went it and it was all sealed off. We found four individual rooms within this one big room, all in various stages of growing,” said Chief Bell.

The owners of the house are now being arraigned on criminal possession of marijuana, and criminal growing charges.

Cops seize over 200 marijuana plants from Cambridge home
Updated: Aug 14, 2013 10:06 AM EDT

CAMBRIDGE, N.Y. -- Police made a massive drug bust in Cambridge Tuesday, with investigators arresting two individuals and seizing more than 200 marijuana plants from a home on Park Street.

Kristopher Bradford, 32, and Crystal Howell, 31, each face charges of Felony Possession of Marijuana and Unlawful Growing of Marijuana.

It was one of the largest pot busts Cambridge-Greenwich Police Chief George Bell says he has ever seen, with hundreds of buckets full of large marijuana plants, and even new ones just starting to sprout for the next batch.

"If I hadn't seen the plants go down the road I wouldn't believe," he said.

Police say there was a massive pot growing operation set up throughout the home; in the basement, in the bedroom and even in the backyard where you could supposedly see the plants from the street.

Chief Bell says he found pot growing in the "drying room" on the second floor and in between vegetables out in the garden. "He was pumping air out, but running through this charcoal air system," he says, which helped filter out the odor.

"I've never smelled anything or seen anything that was suspicious," said neighbor Gail Byrne.

Byrne watched as police hauled off thousands of dollars of equipment used to grow the pot, saying neighbors Bradford and Howell were the perfect neighbors.

On Tuesday night they were arraigned at Cambridge Village Cour
