Nobel Memorial Prize-winning economist Joseph Stiglitz
‘The only true and sustainable prosperity is shared prosperity’
“It’s been clear to me that our economy has been sick for a long time,” he began, introducing a theme he would hammer home throughout the speech. “For too long, the hardworking and rule-abiding had seen their paychecks shrink or stay the same, while the rule-breakers raked in huge profits and wealth,” he said. “It made our economy sick, and our politics sick, too.”
He attacked those who oppose living wages in the name of the abstraction of “cutting spending,” saying that “[w]e won’t achieve [true and sustainable prosperity] through mindless cutbacks in public spending, whether in schools, hospitals, police, or firemen. These are ways to keep our economy sick. And an economy in which 95% of the growth goes to the top 1% can only be called that: sick.”
Stiglitz then called on the members of the AFL-CIO to encourage others to unionize, citing Pres. Lincoln on the consequences of dividing houses: “We have become a house divided against itself – divided between the 99% and the 1%, between the workers, and those who would exploit them. We have to reunite the house, but it won’t happen on its own.”
“It will only happen if workers come together. If they organize. If they unite to fight for what they know is right, in each and every workplace, in each and every community, and in each and every state capital and in Washington. We have to restore not only democracy to Washington, but to the workplace.” |

Yes, because we can always trust the union and government leaders to not squander pension funds and social security. Unions and government officials are not greedy. Systematic management means systematic theft. Unionized workers like to be collectively robbed. Makes them feel better. |

Cissy would much rather that the 1% keep on getting richer and the bottom 99% fend for themselves. Anti govt, anti union, anti health care, anti education, anti social... the only thing he's for is himself. |

Pro freedom, pro individualism, pro free markets, anti collectivism. The 1% get richer by using the powers of government to preserve their wealth. Your solution is to use the power of government to preserve your wealth. BOTH want to use coercive powers of government for their personal greed. Gaming the markets to give labor an advantage over management or visa versa isn't freedom. Let both of those in the 1% and 99% fail if they can't compete. You believe in a managed class system, I don't. |

Again, Cicero is a "ME". He is alone in the world. I consider myself a "WE". "WE" working together can accomplish much more for all of us, than Cicero will ever gain by himself. |

But at what cost and by what force, your type needs to be forced by penalties even if one doesn't agree with it or doesn't use the service. |

There is a voluntary "we". I voluntarily work together everyday. "We" can all work together without the coercive power of a few bureaucrats elected by a simple majority to force the minority of "we" to comply with the majorities demands. Again, box is a "we" so long he is in the majority dictating to the minority. We ALL have seen box go ape sh!t when he considered his president GWB a war criminal and illegitimate when he won the 2000 election. He made it crystal clear that he despises his fellow "we" when they wield the levers of government. |

Keep focusing in that 1% because we all know there is a limited pool of wealth...But really: that way the rest of the losers will turn their rage on the successful and away from the political class that put them in hock for future generations as far as can be seen.
Keep chanting: 1% 1% 1%
It will make it all better, really. |

Just for clarity... The results of voting in the 2000 Presidential Election: G Worst Bush 50,456,002 47.87% Al Gore 50,999,897 48.38% The Winner........ 543,895 Al Gore over half a million more votes than G Worst Bush!or Cicero's "majority" voted for Al Gore! |

Just a reminder the Democrats have consistently supported the Electoral college to keep third parties out, thus have no right to whine when their own creation occasionally bites them in the a**. |

My post is in response to Cicero's whine: "majority dictating to the minority". |

Box, the Dem and Reps have been working together for years, can you think of any other logical explanation for the electoral college? |

Oh, sorry, my bad...So you supported Bush policy after he won the 2004 election? Thanks for clarifying that for me. |
