Responsible Gun Owner Second-Amendments 3 Year Old Daughter
Killeen Daily Herald:
According to an arrest affidavit, a witness told police that the young girl's father, 27-year-old Ashton Blake Salvato, was "playing with a gun" when he shot the young girl.
What was deemed as an apparent ‘accidental' shooting could have easily been prevented, by not "playing" with an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle and his child within target range. In a residence, just before 12:20 p.m., the father killed his young daughter in what most certainly not an ‘accident.'
Officers performed CPR on the little girl who was identified as Cessa Joy Salvato. She was rushed to a local hospital where she died from her injuries.
Salvato told police he checked the chamber of his gun, an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle, and didn't see a round in the chamber, according to the arrest affidavit.
Salvato was arrested on Sunday and arraigned on a second-degree felony charge of manslaughter in connection with the shooting. Salvato's bond is set at $1 million.

The US Is the Most Heavily Armed Country in the World BUT BUT... OBAMERS GONNA TAKE AWAY OUR GUNZ!!!

it's stunning to see just how heavily armed the US is compared to every other country on the planet. Indeed, the only country that even comes close to the US per capita average is Yemen. While the US has only 5% of the world's population, it has between 35% and 50% of the world's civilian firearms.

I would say that he was neither a "responsible" gun owner nor was this an accident. He checked the chamber???? I don't believe it!
A responsible gun owner does not "play" with their guns, they do not pull the trigger (dry fire) while handling them (Rule #1 your finger should never be on the trigger unless you are going to fire the weapon) and you always verify over and over again that there is nothing in the chamber.

That's the point. This isn't an isolated event. GunHuggers who claim to be "responsible gun owners" do this sort of thing every day... and the rest of us pay the price for it. I hope they nail this guy with manslaughter.

On Sunday, Salvato was arrested and arraigned on a second-degree felony charge of manslaughter in connection with the shooting. He is in custody in Bell County Jail on $1 million bond. Cessa Joy Salvato’s death marks the sixth homicide death in Killeen for 2015, according to previous Herald reports. All six of those deaths involved firearms.

I believe it, since there is no more just going out in the woods and shooting anymore which I used to do as a kid with my friends and relatives. Now the minute you discharge a .22 on private land some whiner is calling the police. The gun clubs are all closed to new members even though no one seems to be using the facilities all the time, so I think most people who might be interested get discouraged.
As far as the young people..... Most parents are content with their children sitting in front of a wide screen TV plugged in and playing virtual war games where they get to shoot people over and over again with no consequences, and never have a conversation about how it works in real life. My kids know the destructive force behind real fire arms and how truly dangerous they are and I think they are better off understanding this reality.
For years now schools and the media have been indoctrinating our kids with the idea that GUNS ARE BAD, AND IF YOU SEE ONE DON"T PICK IT UP!!!! Well I want my kids to be responsible enough to carefully pick it up and bring it to a responsible adult not just leave it for younger kid to find and discharge. We make our kids so afraid of everything today and worried that they might get in trouble for doing what is truly the right thing.

Just one thought... When you say "discharge a .22 on private land"... I assume that you are talking about "on your own private land".
In any case, a .22lr has a maximum range of appx 1.5 miles. Even though you are "plinking" on your own land, anyone within a mile and a half is 'in range'.
