A series of 24 new polls show that if the next election for the House of Representatives were held today, the GOP could well lose at least 17 of the seats they now hold.
The polls were conducted in 24 individual districts. In 17 of them, an unnamed Democrat would win against the incumbent even before the voter is given information about where he/she stands on the shutdown. Democrats need to win just 17 additional seats in 2014, in order for the switch in control of the House to be complete. The 17 already leaning in that direction are in the states of CA (1), CO (1), FL (3), IA (2), IL (1), KY (1), MA (3), NY(1), OH (1), PA (2), and WI (1). In four other districts, the incumbent also falls behind the Democrat once the voters know that the Republican was one of those that supported the federal shutdown – CA (1), NY (2), VA (1). In only three of the total districts does the Republican still come out on top.

Because they really don't care what happens to the citizenry, it isn't affecting the Republicans one bit, but they had to put on a show for the medium-size business owners and the individuals who are being harmed by this, just so the electorate doesn't catch on that nobody represents us any more. BTW, where did Michele Obama make a living, and where did she receive a huge raise and promotion when her husband became a senator? Would it be in the not-for-profit, non-medical part of the health care industry? So would we really expect to see this administration take a close look at why health care can be so out of reach of the average American sometimes?

Until ObamaCare, Health Care was out of reach to many US citizens. A pre existing condition could make any type of health care impossible to buy, IF the insurance company would accept you at all.
The vast majority of Americans now have access to health care insurance, except for those citizens in the poorest Republican states, where their own state legislature turned down their change to buy affordable health insurance.

If Obamacare is "the law of the land", where does Obama get off throwing out the parts of the law he decides he doesn't like, or exempting cronies from its wonders? And how does forcing healthy people to buy insurance help to understand why health care is costing Americans so much? Why does health care cost more than many Americans can afford? Wouldn't a responsible president make an effort to find out? Of course, this is the same president who thinks food stamps are the answer to so many Americans not being able to afford food.

Obama can't pass a law... No president can. Obama care was passed by the house and senate, then signed into law when the President signed it. It IS the law of the land. On it's question of "constitutionality" the US Supreme court ruled on those questions in favor of the law.
Congress can get rid of this law if they want to. They have the power to get rid of ObamaCare, but they don't have the votes. The HOUSE HAS VOTED 40 TIMES TO GET RID OF OBAMACARE AND LOST EVERY TIME. Do you think they should vote on it 41 times? 45 times? 100 times???
The role of the President in this matter is to implement the law. Much of it is already in practice and a major part of it started for Americans on Oct 1st.
The rest of the developed world has universal health care... the USA is the last major player to offer health care to it's citizens, and if the Republicans have their way, the GOP will take away health care insurance from as many as they can.
ObamaCare is now what is left of Obama's original health care bill. The GOP has watered down this law from it's very inception. As posted above, the poorest Americans, living in the south, have had Obamacare taken away from them by their own Republican legislature. When they talk about "negotiations"... the south lost ObamaCare in those "negotiations". When they talk about "Compromise"... The GOP 'compromised" those people right out of their health care. The "public Option" was originally in Obamacare, but now gone due to GOP "Compromise" . Vermont and a few other states are now working on a plan to offer all Vermont citizens the Public Option, and if successful, it may be the plan eventually used for the rest of the USA.
