It was an emergency - for the parent. It could have easily been resolved by the parents(and was).

The town is in trouble because people think non essential services should be provided for whatever they want. This goes back to the days of when town workers were plowing private driveways. It's an emergency, I can't get out of my driveway. And I shouldn't have to pay a person to plow me out. I pay taxes, I'm entitled.
Cicero...if you want to change things then run for this Town.....all you peeps talk about is complain and negative responses..
walk in someone else's shoes.......you want to change things then change it....but, don't go ballistic when it involves a child...I've seen where
police answer or visit while on duty....you are very lax when it comes to the way you view public service....try it ...you might like it...
but then...you would pick and chose who to serve...
Change doesn't happen top down. If I ran for office and won, I'd still have to deal with residents demanding their right to non essential services. Until the people understand they can take care of 99% of the "emergencies" they face, nothing will change, no matter who is in office. And reading your posts, you don't want it to change. You want every last need met by government. Whether it's providing toilet paper or unlocking a car door.

No, just the opposite. If I was a politician, I would suggest the town hire 4 more patrol officer for a few hundred thousand dollars. Then use your child locked in a car story to justify raising everybodies taxes to pay for the additional officers. Then go to the Conservative party for campaign contributions and an endorsement for increasing union membership, contributing more to the pension fund, and giving them more political influence.
I'm going to suggest, even though I don't live in Rotterdam, that since you have police on the payroll anyway, go ahead and use them for the littler issues like this one. Why not? It's the people's force, and if this is what fits their definition of protection and service, you aren't paying them per call.
The key point that mentioned but then seemingly forgotten in the attempt to besmirch and smear our fine police force is this -- they were already responding to another emergency call. We don't know what the other call was but I trust that our police department and dispatchers use excellent judgment in determining response priorities. Rotterdam is more than a nice place to live. It is a great place to live. And our police department contributes much to making that so.

I always wonder...what does "doing something for the community" mean? I mean really, what that is now code for, is throwing more money at the government to take care of every need. You create a neighborhood watch to help prevent crime---not without the authorization of the government regulators. You want to feed the poor---not without the permission of the government regulators, you want to house the homeless---not without permission of regulators.
Now we are reduced to working insane hours to make enough to pay taxes. The rest of the time is maintaining your property, raising your family, spending time with family and friends, and hoping you have enough money you get you through your old age and leave a little money to your kids. All without the government sucking you and your family dry of every penny you earned throughout your lifetime so THEY can live a life of luxury.

Oh, there is only one police car for the whole town? Or it was critical for the WHOLE department to respond to "another emergency" which YOU admit YOU don't know what the other call was?
If the police were on this "another emergency call" and that there was no car available for what seemed to be an emergency at the church, then this "another emergency" would have made top billing in all the news---the "another emergency" would have had to be at least as massive as the chase last week.
So what is it? A massive emergency that took each and every cop such that there was not even one cop that could respond to the church, and if so, where is the story in the news? OR was the whole town being serviced by only one cop that morning?

Of course that's what someone would think when they don't have to pay taxes, don't have a mortgage to pay, not renting with all the usual expenses of NG, renter insurance, etc, when living off the taxpayers.
Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent. Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.
ROTTENdam lost it's ability to think for itself decades ago. ROTTENdamians bought the same lie that folks can't fend for themselves without GOV ALMIGHTY!!! I mean hell.....they can all blame the government for their failures!! That's why there are very few ROTTENdamians that have the guts enough to rightfully bit*ch about the cost of their law enforcement! But yet EVERYONE will bit*ch about their taxes!!
