ROTTERDAM — State police arrested a pair of Rotterdam jewelers on felony charges of possession of stolen property after they allegedly refused to relinquish items stolen in April from the Schoharie home of Assemblyman Peter Lopez.
Joseph Delefano and Richard Poltorak were each charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property Wednesday, while Delefano was also charged with a felony count of falsifying business records.
Delefano and Poltorak own Regency Jewelers on Altamont Avenue. State police investigators said they developed a lead indicating stolen property from the Lopez residence was at the store, but both men refused to release the items. A search warrant was executed with assistance from the Rotterdam Police Department, investigators said, and the items were recovered.
Delefano and Poltorak were released on tickets to appear in Rotterdam Town Court at a later date.
In May, Connor Casabonne and Bryan Lemoine, both 20 and both of Main Street in Schoharie, were each charged with two counts of second-degree burglary in connection with the burglary, as well as another from a home in the Schoharie area. Investigators said they stole mostly cash and jewelry, some of which was later recovered.
The homes were randomly selected and broken into during the day, and the alleged burglars did not know the Republican assemblyman owned one of the residences, state police said.
I wonder if there is more to this story we are not hearing, that place doesn't need to rely on stolen scrap gold to survive, its not your ghetto cash for gold shop on Hamilton Hill. I don't see why they would risk arrest and put their business in jeopardy for a couple pieces of stolen jewelry, something isn't right about this.

Acting Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple said Tina Civitello, 18, of Guilderland Avenue in Rotterdam and Meagan Murdza, 22, of Sheridan Avenue in Albany were each charged with third-degree grand larceny. They were arraigned on the charge and sent to the Albany County Jail on $10,000 bail.
Apple said the two are accused of stealing items worth $6,300 from a homeowner they knew on Bullock Road. They allegedly pawned the stolen items at Jewels in Rotterdam Square mall and Regency Jewelers on Altamont Avenue in Rotterdam.
reminds me of the days of old.....Gas station on Altamont Ave......took stolen items.....long time ago....so the story goes......not surprised.....this is how they make there money they don't have to claim....not all jewelers

So this reads that the state police went in FIRST without a search warrant demanding these men release items....and the men refused. It wasn't until AFTER they presented a search warrant that the items were released.
Isn't that the way the law is suppose to work....search warrant first?

There is nothing in the article that says that Police entered the store BEFORE they got a warrant....you are just assuming that because it fits the agenda! Kinda like the Police are wrong before all the facts are in...right!!!!

State Police in Princetown have arrested Joseph Delefano and Richard Poltorak, owners and operators of Regency Jewelers in Rotterdam.
Investigators discovered that stolen items from a burglary at New York State Assemblyman Peter Lopez's residence that occurred in April 2013 was located at the Rotterdam jewelry store.
Police recovered the stolen property after obtaining a search warrant and charged Delefano and Poltorak with criminal possession of stolen property.
Delefano was charged with falsifying business records.

I'm not disagreeing....it's just the way it was worded in the newspaper that would lead one to believe that the state police approached these guys without a search warrant.....THEN the rotterdam police issued the warrant.......just sayin'

Interpretation of media reports will vary...just not one to be quick to judge until I know enough to make a judgment. I have no agenda to bash law enforcement, so not quick to jump and question the legality of their actions until info is in.
Notice 2 more reports agreed with each other that jewelry was discovered AFTER warrant served. Just sayin'...trying to set the record straight!

True. The state police went there probably thinking that these guys would be cooperative since it was involving a robbery. We they didn't cooperate they had to get a warrant...but who knows for sure, huh?
