Connecticut lawmakers who passed strict new gun control measures in response to the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre approved a package of revisions Monday to reduce confusion about the new rules and expand the list of officials who can legally possess restricted firearms.

Both chambers of the state legislature voted to adopt changes and exemptions to the bipartisan deal that strengthened the state’s assault weapons ban and banned the sale of high-capacity magazines.

The legislation emerged from a bipartisan working group that sought to refine the original gun control bill, which proponents hailed as one of the most far-reaching in the nation, in response to ambiguity that came to light in part through feedback from constituents and gun owners. A spokesman for Gov. Dannel P. Malloy said he supports the changes.

The new bill allows individuals to possess and register assault weapons they purchased or placed on consignment prior to or on April 4, the day the gun control law was passed, but did not receive the items until after that date.

The bill also clarifies the status of .22-caliber rimfire rifles, defining them as assault weapons when fitted with a detachable magazine and more than one of several features including a folding or telescoping stock, bayonet mount or flash suppressor. With passage of Monday’s revisions, the firearm so constructed will no longer be available for sale in Connecticut, but consumers who purchased it since April 4 will be allowed to register and keep it.

22's can be assault rifles based on their cosmetics, if it has a folding stock or pistol grip it will fall under the assault weapons ban. It shows how stupid the laws are today.

Both of the pictures are the same gun (Ruger 10/22), the only difference is one looks scary, they both function the same and can accept the same magazines. Neither is more deadlier then the other yet some liberals think the black folding stock makes it a superior killing machine

Seems to follow along same lines as the NY State law. Brought mine to local Police for their opinion because I have a custom
oak stock with a thumbhole.....locals were not clear that it is illegal...law is to thinly defined for them to enforce much of it.

I know the type of stocks you are talking about, some consider it a pistol grip still, though if its on a 22 I wouldn't worry about it.

AR-15 rifles use .223 Remington cartridges.

If you paint it black, it would be illegal because it's scary looking to paranoid old 'Nam guys that call people 'Gun Huggers', yet own multiple guns and have a C&C permit.

I'm an old NAM guy who appreciates safe operation and ownership of weapons
Don't recall I've ever called anyone a gun hugger...but have challenged that some on this board
are too demented and unstable to own any kind of weapon
How do you know that Box really has a C&C?

If you gun grabbers took all the semi-automatic weapons and China attacked us, would we repel them with shotguns?

The Chinese military outnumbers the US military by more than 100 to one.

The US military has failed repeatedly for the past 50 years.

The Swiss military which issues fully automatic weapons to every civilian on their 18th birthday has never been defeated.

And people aren't running amok shooting up schools.

Disallowing civilian weapons is inviting another military loss.

You mean selectively allowed ownership and regulation.

It's the bill of rights, not the bill of needs.

Guns are a man's right.

And just as no laws are allowed to infringe upon the right to free exercise of religion, no laws should should be allowed regulating a person's rights of any kind.
