2 cars heading into Rotterdam on Guilderland Ave at a high rate of speed, possibly racing,
both swerved off opposite sides of Guilderland Ave. The yellowish car hit a l;arge rock at the
corner of Irene St , then over the curb, through the brick planter and hit the roofline of the
brick house next to the Church, boucing backward and landing beteen the church and the
brick house upside down, folded in half and looked like it was just ran through a compacter.

The dark colored Camaro swerved off the right hand side of the road, removing the front
porch from the house next to Sal's Market, then spinning out into Guilderland Ave and finally
being stopped when it slid up to the street light pole.

A witness said a motorcycle was also involved. The power went out for half of Pauline,
Augustine, Laura, Cleveland and Van Dyke.

This all happened at approx 3:40 am Sunday the 28th.

The yellow car did not look survivable.

I did not have a camera with me.

In the photo you can see the muffler. That is the rear of the vehicle.

The driver's compartment is folded with the roof nearly against the floor.

The tire tracks show the minivan hit the rock in the lower left of the picture, then took down
the Irene St sign, hit the brick planter destroying the left half of it and knocking the Church
sign over to the right, then went airborne and hit the roof of the brick building, finally falling
backwards onto the picket pence..

3:40 in the morning on Guilderland Ave?

We all know who is up at that hour on the computer on all those chat sites.  Wonder if these couple guys were rushing up the road a bit.

Guess not!

they must put the 'un-fit' cops on 'red eye' duty thinking there wouldn't be much action.

on a side note here.....how the hell did these 2 vehicles collide? I mean how many cars are on the road at that hour??

........hope they are all ok.

We get people in the city racing for "pink slips" now and then. That could be what this was.

From the looks of the car I thought for sure a fatality, all survive with minor injuries, that is usually the case when drunk as they don't
have the normal reaction of stiffening up.  thank God no innocent person hurt or killed.

Doesn't it seem like there is an increase in crashes with the cars going flying off the road? Is it because cars weigh less or something?

Drivers face DWI, other charges in Sunday morning Rotterdam crash
Monday, April 29, 2013
By Michael Goot (Contact)
Gazette Reporter

ROTTERDAM — Two people are facing driving while intoxicated charges following a Sunday morning crash, where both cars struck each other and then hit buildings.

The accident occurred just after 3:30 a.m. A Chevrolet Camaro driven by 21-year-old Lauren Nixon of Schenectady and a Honda minivan driven by 21-year-old Justin O’Hare of Guilderland were driving south on Guilderland Avenue. O’Hare began to pass Nixon and both vehicles struck each other, according to Rotterdam Police Lt. Jason Murphy.

O’Hare’s vehicle then struck the building and fence of Bellevue Gospel Church at 2702 Guilderland Ave. Nixon’s car struck the front porch of 2715 Guilderland Ave. It also struck a utility pole, which caused some residents to lose power briefly. The vehicles clipped the church sign and put a hole in the brick entranceway. There was not significant structural damage, but the church will have to prop up the sign.

Injuries were minor and both drivers and a passenger of O’Hare’s were treated at Albany Medical Center and Ellis Hospital.

Both O’Hare and Nixon face multiple charges. In addition to DWI, O’Hare was charged with speeding, reckless driving, passing in a no passing zone, failure to keep right and driving without a license.

Nixon was charged with DWI speeding, reckless driving, failure to keep right, driving without a license and aggravated unlicensed operation.
