Navy Veteran Shot & Wounded By Police While Testing Shotgun In Backyard March 29, 2013 5:31 PM Share on email224View Comments Reporting Mike Schuh
BALTIMORE (WJZ)—A 24-year-old Navy veteran is in intensive care after being shot by city police Thursday night. His family tells WJZ that he was testing out a shotgun after being the victim of a home invasion.
Mike Schuh spoke exclusively to the man’s father.
Police say officers responded to reports of shots fired Thursday night outside a home in the 8700-block of Danville Avenue.
“The went to the rear of the location to investigate. They encountered an individual that was armed with a shotgun. During the course of that encounter, one of our officers discharged, striking the suspect,” said Sgt. Eric Kowalczyk, police spokesman.
Shot above his heart was 24-year-old Navy veteran Nick Romano. The police bullet exited his back. His spleen was removed at the hospital.
His father rushed to the scene.
“I got a phone call, hysterical, from my ex-wife saying my son was just shot by the police,” said David Romano, father.
He says there’s a good reason why his son had a weapon. Last week, two men broke into the house, tied up his son’s mother and ransacked the place. Nick Romano was in Florida at the time on vacation. Once he got back, his friends offered to help and gave him a rifle and a shotgun for protection. Four shot gun holes and blood spatter can be found in the backyard.

He was just taking Bidens advice and look what that got him.

The officer's safety was of the utmost importance. Thank goodness this officer of the law is safe and can go home to his family!
We should all be thankful he ran towards the supposed danger

Was the navy vet committing a crime by "test shooting" his weapon in a residencial area? Were other citizens in danger from his shots? Did the police make a mistake? Did the Navy vet shoot at the police???

His dad says his son should not have been firing the weapon here, but he says police fired without warning.

So the dad admitted the son should not have been shooting his weapon, but wasn't at the scene when the incident happened... so... How does the dad know if the police fired with out warning???

Box, if the next door neighbor shot the Navy vet testing the shotgun, would you be calling it a "mistake"? No, you'd be screaming for more gun regulations.

Probably from his son who shot

If the next door neighbot shot the navy vet because the vet was shooting at him ( or appeared to be shooting at him) I would call it possible self defense.
If a cop shot at the navy vet because the vet was shooting at him ( or appeared to be shooting at him) I would call it possible self defense.
If my neibhbor was shooting his shotgun in his backyard, I would call the cops, and rightfully so. It's against the law to endanger the entire neighborhood just so some GunHugger could "TEST FIRE" his shotgun.
Just curious... do you consider "TEST FIRING" a shotgun in a residential neighborhood acceptable???

Kinda like when cops shoot off dangerous fireworks in their residential back yards on a very dry 4th of july night! ....and the neighbors don't like it AT ALL!!!
WHO YA GONNA CALL??????
