I have owned a few Camaros and the new ones have some spunk but in a different way as compared to the old ones. The torque is not there as the displacement is lowered. Gearing has to do the job. The braking is superior as is the ride and handling. As to the name I have a pet peeve about the way cars are named these days. Camaro aka "Little Pal" is one of the finest brand names GM ever projected alongside "El Dorado, Fleetwood, Grand Prix, Cutlass, Skylark, Tornado, and Riviera" Please note those names are all retired. As powerful brand names as "Pepsi" or "Kleenex" or "Trojan" (LOL) in the lexicon. The sheer measure of idiocy is that only the "Camaro" brand remains available. Such venerable standard-bearers for GM now include (for example) the Cadillacs- CTS, DTS, XLR, STS, XRS, XLR, ESV and EXT. Not as romantic or glamorous as Deville, Seville or Eldo for sure. Lincoln Continentals and El Dorados we the cars that Elvis and Frank Sinatra drove. Who drives an M-73X? Alphanumeric rules the day.
Ford almost threw away the "Mustang" which is arguably the greatest car brand name in history.
This is all part of the corporate genius' attempts to embrace a European and international flavor, yet as far as the consumer goes, no one will ever remember the MKX from the MDX in 20 years. What a shame. |
