I bet most of us here grew up with parents who smoked in their cars or houses, we are all still here. People now know more about the dangers but we don't need a law to enforce it, education over the years have cut down those who allow their kids around their smoke.

U.S. Surgeon General Statements on Children and Secondhand Smoke
• “Secondhand smoke contains more than 250 chemicals known to be toxic or carcinogenic,
including formaldehyde, benzene, vinyl chloride, arsenic, ammonia, and hydrogen cyanide.
Children who are exposed to secondhand smoke are inhaling many of the same cancer-causing
substances and poisons as smokers.”
• “Because their bodies are developing, infants and young children are especially vulnerable to the
poisons in secondhand smoke.”
• “Both babies whose mothers smoke while pregnant and babies who are exposed to secondhand
smoke after birth are more likely to die from sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) than babies who
are not exposed to cigarette smoke.”
• “Babies whose mothers smoke while pregnant or who are exposed to secondhand smoke after birth
have weaker lungs than other babies, which increases the risk for many health problems.”
• “Secondhand smoke exposure causes acute lower respiratory infections such as bronchitis and
pneumonia in infants and young children.”
• “Secondhand smoke exposure causes children who already have asthma to experience more
frequent and severe attacks.”
• “Secondhand smoke exposure causes respiratory symptoms, including cough, phlegm, wheeze, and
breathlessness, among school-aged children.”
• “Children exposed to secondhand smoke are at increased risk for ear infections and are more likely to
need an operation to insert ear tubes for drainage.”
• “The Surgeon General has concluded that the only way to fully protect yourself and your loved ones
from the dangers of secondhand smoke is through 100% smoke-free environments.”
• “If you are a smoker, the single best way to protect your family from secondhand smoke is to quit
smoking. In the meantime, you can protect your family by making your home and vehicles smokefree
and only smoking outside.”

Gazette Poll 23 votes!

That's really scientific, and absolutely has nothing to do with the wishes of the people of Utah.

The choices should have been:

Yes
No
I can raise my kids without governmental supervision.

The Gazette clearly stated this is not a scientific poll.

Plus children can easily vote as many times as they like.

You must not have the proper genetic code to perform such tasks.

After years of failure, a bill to outlaw smoking in cars with children is now one stop away
from finally becoming law.

The Senate Health and Human Services Committee voted 4-1 Wednesday to pass HB13, and sent
it to the full Senate. It earlier passed the House 41-30.

A long parade of medical and youth protection organizations testified for it Wednesday as a needed
step to protect children’s health. It was opposed by only one group — the conservative Utah
Eagle Forum, which argued it infringes on parental rights, could someday lead to banning smoking
in homes or lead to child abuse charges against smoking parents.

Ban Monsanto and save lives.

California doesn't even allow adults to smoke in cars when they are alone.

Obviously it takes the Federal government to raise a child properly.

I believe it was Thomas Jefferson who first said that.

Or maybe I'm thinking of George Jefferson.
