Tbird, if you don't see the difference between the risk involved in the US presidents kids and the risk of
an average school kid in school... nothing that I can do will enlighten you.
All kids IMO have the same value, but not all kids face the same risk. A child in a terrible neighborhood where
guns in school are a common event is at a greater risk than a kid in a typical suburban school... but even
though the risk is greater to be hit by lightning... there is risk to all kids.
Obviously the President's children are at a much greater risk.
That is no excuse for unequal treatment under the law.
They may be entitled to special protection, but do it in private. Not in a gun free area.
Others in the gun free area have a right to not be put at risk of those weapons.
Personally I think there should be a resource officer in every school. I don't believe they should
be carrying loaded weapons as part of that job. Furthermore, I believe the right to carry concealed
should not be regulated in certain areas, forcing lawful gun owners to not be protected.
The school district in Texas that made it legal to carry concealed in schools has never had a problem.
The students are aware that some teachers may be armed. They have no idea which ones. That serves
as the deterrent. There may actually be no guns at all in the school, but the kids thinking there are
or may be, serve the desired purpose.
I would allow carry concealed in schools by teachers, staff, parents or even the school resource officer.
These people would all be responsible for the use of these weapons as private citizens only.
I would not want the kids seeing themselves as attending school under the jurisdiction of armed
guards. Just publicly announce the gun free zones are rescinded and make no further comments.
Let each student, parent and potential psycho each draw their own conclusions.
So, for the record, yes a cop in every school. No open carry. No service weapon. Personal carry concealed
weapons only. No more gun free zones.
It's been tried successfully.
Gun free zones have been tried unsuccessfully.
Try using the option that works, instead of the option known to fail repeatedly.
It's called logical conclusions, based on evidence.
Police resource officers shouldn't be put in school as armed bodyguards.(Jailers)
There are many issues where a resource officer could help the kids, being bullied, harassment,
drug gangs/violence, kids having safety concerns for themselves, their friends, or even their families
at home could be discussed with a resource officer.
Armed guards would be taken as a challenge by the armed students.
Crossfire.
Failure.
