I believe the regular kindle is just a E Reader, the Kindle Fire you can have different Apps, books, games etc.

My youngest son has the kindle fire and he loves it. I think the price is down to about $150.00 ? Check out all local stores for coupons : ) My Mom got one for Christmas and didn't realize she needed wireless internet, she's all hooked up now : )
