I don't know what kind of neighborhood you live in, or if you consider it to be a high risk... any home
is a target to a home invasion, but some more than others.  If I lived in a high crime area I would take
more precautions... intrusion devices, security systems, cameras, reinforced doors and windows, etc...
I would take 'reasonable' precautions.

For me a pistol is a reasonable precaution... for you it seems, an arsenal of weapons wouldn't be
enough.  Why the difference between your view and mine?
A different level of FEAR.

I live in a bad neighborhood where shootings and home invasions are more common place, you are blessed to be able to live in a nicer neighborhood. What guns I own I chose because they may protect me and my families life one day, I have been around guns my whole life since I was a kid, I'm not some random guy who just purchased their assault rifle out of fear and never fired a gun in their life. Even though I have been shooting for years I still took safety and tactical classes from the guy who trained our SWAT team, not to sound like some bad a** but if you seen how some other cops shoot well I will just say I feel safer with me behind the trigger protecting myself Anyways what is reasonable for your situation may not be reasonable for me, a pistol for you might not seem like enough for me, lets hope neither of us have to find out but incase it does happen I hope you have the upper hand at least.

The police also carry assault weapons in their cars with large capacity clips along with their large capacity pistols some full automatic but most of their calls are not for bank roberies. For years the Albany police carried 45 caliber sub machine guns in the trunks of their police cars that had 100 round drum clips but only the law abiding citizens lose their rights to carry a weapon with more than 7 rounds in them. That doesn't sound very fair for the home owner to defend his family from an armed gang invading their home with a lot less ammo but the police need it to protect themselves. Are the police in fear of the residents or are they paranoid like you accuse other people of being??

LMAO!  Paranoid is when you think that "they are out to get ya"...
In police work, many criminals "are out to get ya"!

As I posted before...  homeowners have weapons for home protection... they are playing defense.
Most Police carry weapons to arrest criminals... they are playing offense.

The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral
philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.

a police officer can't say someone is a criminal....that's for a judge and jury.....they can call them perps...but who's to
say the perp wasn't a criminal if they are dead....

It all depends on the circumstances....but the jury is NOT the police officer(s)....EVER....but in Box's lingo it's OK
to be called a nasty dirty disgusting criminal when there is no judge and jury in sight and you being 'labeled' a criminal
puts you at the end of that barrel.....

as well trained the police are,,,they ARE HUMAN FIRST AND FEAR ALSO LIVES IN THEM.....

...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......

The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.
