"Jolted by the re-election of President Barack Obama, the defeat of congressional tea party icon
Allen West and the cracking of Republican anti-tax orthodoxy during the recent federal budget
showdown, the tea party movement is trying to rebrand and repackage itself in South Florida."

"The South Florida Tea Party — the group that helped Marco Rubio launch his Senate bid and that
hosted Donald Trump during his last flirtation with a presidential run — is shedding the words
“tea party” as it undergoes a name change."

'“We felt for branding reasons that we wanted to differentiate ourselves from certain organizations
that have the name ‘tea party’ and we can’t control,” said Everett Wilkinson, leader of the
organization that will now be called the National Liberty Federation."

They can change their name, but a TeaBagger is a TeaBagger, no matter what they call themselves.

Allen West lost because he was a Freedomworks neocon.  They are relabelling themselves because the people that were dupped into believing Allen West was something other than a pro-militarism neocon 3 years ago became wise to the sham.  They didn't come out and vote for him, they stayed home.  They were part of the 7 million that didn't show up to the polls on election day.  The Republican establishment is trying every trick in the book to confuse and mislead libertarians into believing their candidate is something other than a statist neocon.  Good Luck!

Most of the USA considers "TeaBaggers" to be Tea Party douche bags...

Only Buck considers it to be the slang sexual definition of a teabagger... wonder why?

Just 8% now say they are members of the Tea Party, down from a high of 24% in April 2010.

They don't consider themselves "tea party" because most realized it was co-opted by the statists in the establishment party.  More people are not consenting to the political system.  The nomination of Romney alienated millions that now opt not to participate, it doesn't mean they joined the ranks of the republican or democrat parties.

Don't ya just love the excuses!!!

Like Ron Paul, Johnson ran as Republicans, but were ignored by the Republican voters, they
ran as Libertarians... (and were ignored there too)!

The Tea Party was hijacked by the mainstream once they seen it was starting to get serious, this was caught by most quickly and that is why most backed away from them. As said above the establishment is trying everything to get real conservatives back except for actually making the changes that count, they will talk the talk but that is about it.

The TeaBaggers in Montgomery/Fulton county were all piss and vinegar after the 2010 elections... then
faded away into obscurity.  (Thank God)
They protested candidates like Paul Tonko in favor of the GOP shill... They were a few loudmouths trying
to hook their cause to a growing movement.  TeaBaggers crashed after the 2010 election, never again to be
a force in politics.
Like the Ron Paul Libertarian candidacy... a flash in the pan.

Maybe you forget but I was blasting the Tea Party for being hijacked when I first came here, this was when they were in their prime Your not hurting me by calling them out, I agree most of them were nothing but establishments trying to take over the movement.

No excuses.  Look at the election results.  Both candidates received less votes than 4 and 8 years ago.

Wasn't it you that said you wouldn't waste your time on a 3rd party candidate?  I think more people are realizing that not casting a vote sends more of a message than a protest vote for a 3rd party candidate.  They see the system is rigged by a ruling class and that participation in the national debate is limited by those that control the corporate state.

Just for the record, all political parties were ignored by 43% of the voters.  93 million poeple didn't vote.  Does that mean there are 93 million anti government "extremist" out there?LOL

The TeaParty popularity, and their name brand, is now plummeting along with the fortunes of
the congressional Republican Party. As Bennet notes, even right-wing pollsters like Rasmussen
are finding that support for the Tea Party movement is absolutely cratering.

Rasmussen, a favorite polling firm of conservatives, found in a survey this month that only 8
percent of voters identify themselves as Tea Party members, down from a high of 24 percent
shortly after passage of the federal health care law in 2010. The poll found 30 percent of
voters had a favorable view of the Tea Party and 49 percent had a negative view.An October
Rasmussen poll found 44 percent of voters considered “Tea Party” a negative label, eclipsing
“liberal” as the most potent negative adjective.

And, again, he’s the Republican pollster. A NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll finds, according
to Benen, that attitudes about the Tea Party are “abysmal.” “Just 9% have a ‘very positive’
impression of the so-called movement — an all-time low,” he writes, “while 32% have a
‘very negative’ impression — an all-time high. All told, the Tea Party’s favorability rating
is down to just 23%, which is even lower than the GOP’s support and that of the NRA.”

“If the ‘movement’ still exists,” Benen argues, “it’s gasping for air — and relevance.”
