Friend of ours daughter goes to college in another state. A guy is texting her a picture of his DICK with the threat of rape if he sees her. The parents went to law enforcement....called verizon.......and they ALL said that because the guy hasn't actually done 'anything'....he has committed no crime.

Haven't several of the shooters in recent incidents posted youtube or facebook or other precursors that they were going to do something, and then carried out their threats? Words are a persons expression...if they say they want to kill someone, then shouldn't that be understood as a threat and potential danger? or do we have to wait until they have actually killed?

He may be a coward for not being capable of handling things in a logical ways without anger and violence. I don't believe he's a coward in that he wouldn't take action, I believe he owns guns, probably several including assault weapons, and would use them.
We had a guy at work just like him, spouting similar type stuff, Mr. Macho Bigshot. I had a run-in with him over road rage one day and the guy was crazed. 6 months later, his wife left him because she couldn't deal with him anymore. A neighbor confronted him for driving too fast through the neighborhood when kids were around, and the guy pulled his revolver...police did nothing, because it was his word against the other, and no one saw anything, and they said he may have made threats but they couldn't arrest him for words. 1 month later his wife went to the house on a SAT when he was to be at work so she could get some of her belongings...her sister stayed outside the house to keep an eye on things. He came rushing around the corner in his SUV, got out and ran past her into the house. Police found wife shot to death in the clothes closet and he committed suicide in the bedroom before they arrived.

Steve Toth (R-The Woodlands) has begun the process to file legislation assisting the protection of the Second Amendment of the United State Constitution.
The “Firearms Protection Act” bill would make any federal law banning semi-automatic firearms or limiting the size of gun magazines unenforceable within the state’s boundaries. Anyone trying to enforce a federal gun ban could face felony charges under the proposal.
“We can no longer depend on the Federal Government and this Administration to uphold a Constitution that they no longer believe in. The liberties of the People of Texas and the sovereignty of our State are too important to just let the Federal Government take them away. The overreach of the federal administrations executive orders that are do not align with the Constitution, are not very popular here in Texas,” said Toth.
Along with Wyoming, Texas will lead the country in continuing to stand for the sovereignty to run Texas as Texans see fit while exercising the Bill of Rights Amendments 2& 10 to “prevent misconstruction or abuse of its powers … [to] extending the ground of public confidence in the Government.”

Is it really all that crazy for someone to feel their life is over and not worth living any longer when the person who swore to him that she would love him for better or worse?

Becoming homicidal and suicidal is not the recommended option, but it always exists for any person.
Loss of a spouse has caused many suicides and murders.
Even when a person loses a spouse from natural causes, many lose the will to live.
You described the guy as a hothead. Perhaps he felt he was losing his wife for longer than you know. His disturbing behavior may have been in some part caused by his feelings that he was failing as a husband and his marriage was doomed.
It's difficult to understand why people react violently to situations, when others just accept whatever will be. Take for example the issue of school bullying. Most kids walk it off. Some 13 year old shows up at school with a pistol because he was tired of suffering at the hands of another. Knowing full well that he would be throwing his own life away, is of no consequence at the time. All that matters is an end to the suffering.
Everyone is quick to deem a person as insane when they don't understand a person's actions. Seeking the end of unbearable suffering is not necessarily insanity. Becoming homicidal and/or suicidal has been the choice of last resort from the beginning of time.
The solution lies in recognizing the symptoms of people that feel that they are suffering and helping them to find relief. The trenchcoat mafia, the weird autistic kid that was likely made fun of for years, all kinds of people are suffering every day with no end in sight. They become obsessed with ending the suffering at any cost. Society has become a hardened place with very little tolerance for people who are different or even a little weird.
A small thing may set someone who is suffering off. Another small thing whereby someone does something nice for them, for no apparent reason, may actually save them from a desperate and violent act.
So I guess the lesson to take from this is do something nice for someone and it may come back to all of society in the form of something good. Treat someone badly and it may just be the spark that sets them off on a killing spree.
Your words are interesting, and may be valid to some extent. However, it would require too much detail on the forum for me to provide all the information to fulyl understand. Let's just leave it as loss of his spouse was not a driving force. It is documented facts that the man was a BULLY, CONTROL FREAK, HOT HEAD, ANGRY MISERABLE PERSON. Those are the words of EVERYONE that was interviewed in the case. Not one person had a positive comment about him. The road rage inceident with me was he cut me off on a 4 lane highway (speed limit 55), he was going at high rate of speed (as he did everyday I saw him), and cut over in front of me to swereve around car in front of him, and had I not swereved to the left and gone into the medium he would have clipped my right front fender. Knowing where he worked, I confronted him that same morning shortly after it occurred...heated words were exchange, and like so many like him, it was not his fault and he did nothing wrong. NUFF SAID...let him rest in peace with his maker
