Pope slams ‘unregulated financial capitalism’ in New Year’s message

Pope Benedict XVI prayed for world peace, condemning the inequality between rich and poor and
“unregulated financial capitalism” at a New Year’s mass in St Peter’s Basilica on Tuesday.

The pope spoke of “hotbeds of tension and confrontation caused by the growing inequality between
rich and poor and the prevalence of a selfish and individualistic mentality also expressed by
unregulated financial capitalism.”

But he added that humanity had “an innate vocation for peace” and prayed for “the gift of peace”
this year, quoting a Biblical passage saying: “Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called
the children of God.”

The Roman Catholic Church celebrates New Year’s Day as World Peace Day.

The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral
philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.

The Pope made these comments from his solid gold office.

The Vatican wealth is put it at $10 billion to $15 billion.

Unregulated Religious stockpiling of wealth.

He could feed an entire starving small country.

Jesus would have. Jesus wouldn't have built a solid gold fortress.

I'd love to know where on earth the unregulated capitalism is happening so I can move there.  Would the minimum wage laws be the unregulated capitalism he's talking about or the bank bailouts, auto bailouts, and fascist medicine?

The Catholic Church was infiltrated by the Communist long ago.  The past two Pope's were from Communist Eastern Europe.  The Catholic Church died in the 1940's.

capitalism in the bible?????

he's becoming irrelevant.....

...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......

The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.

how about the closed churches that used to supply those 'inequalities' of the poor.....it's a terrible terrible place when the
church(any church) is in bed with a political institution.....

the church USED to fill this space as did the women.....it's a new era and we were NOT prepared.....

we WILL leave the next generation lacking and they will ditch their elders unless we can make the guilt the church used to dish out
