I know it is your "right" to express yourself, but I'm surprised the Town would allow you to comment on this especially since you are an "agent" of the Town as a P.C. member!  Especially in the light that the Hodges may be correct and the Town wrong . . . .

My only comments were that a) the nayboobs are making comments about an issue that they really don't know anything about -- and b) the insinuation that the developers got a "wink and a nod" is completely false considering that the development, in its earliest form, was first proposed almost 4 decades ago and took years for it to finally get all of the necessary approvals in its final form -- and c) that it is ludicrous for folks to argue that somehow new development do NOT increase the tax base in the town.   The FACT is that there are only two ways to lower tax rates -- either increase revenues or cut spending -- and one of the ways to increase revenues to the town is to increase the tax base.

Actually there is a third way, and that is to return the county sales tax money proprtionately to the residents of the towns, village, and city of Schenectady Co. rather than fund Metrograft!  (but that's a different thread, yes?)

And there is another way.   It's called RESPONSIBLE development.   Of course, since DV is not and never has been a property owner and taxpayer, he has not personally experienced plummeting home values and the difficulties related with it.  Because of that lack of experience and knowledge, he does think any and all development will increase the tax base, but you and everyone else (with intelligence) on these boards knows that DV has not provided one teeny weeny shred of evidence of how all the development downtown has increased the tax base.   We who have intelligence know full well, and have provided the EVIDENCE DIRECT from the assessment roll that proves all that new development has DRASTICALLY reduced the tax base in the city - reduced it by MILLIONS of dollars.

DV can keep spewing his nonsense babble and hope that someone believes him.   But he will NEVER respond with any hard evidence of how the tax base is increased via new development.   The tax base increases when home values increase and, just like the CVS issue that he was the lone person in favor of it, because he does not have the experience of being a homeowner and taxpayers who would see a reduction in home value because of that project.   He cares NOTHING for the homeowners in the city, town, or county, he's just hoping some politico will hand him an easy job, after all, he doesn't work and he's not out looking for a job.

He won't respond to me anymore because I keep challenging him for evidence---which he can NEVER produce.   Others here should challenge him as well.

Actually, you are the one who is ill-informed and/or an idiot.  The development was delayed for many years as it sought the various approvals -- and having attended many of the public meetings over a span of at least 2 decades -- I can vouch for the fact that the proposal was very thoroughly vetted, scanned, studied, questioned .. etc.   If anything, it dragged on much longer than it reasonably should have.

By your second comments, it is clear that you are one of those folks who would rather live in a thatched hovel with no chance of progress or improvement.   You obviously prefer to live with your head stuck up your a** pretending that nothing should ever change.   So enjoy your miserable existence while the rest of us lead the town forward into the future.

There he goes again, spewing nonsense babble without producing ANY EVIDENCE of what he says.   Since I have provided EVIDENCE that development does NOT necessarily result in an increase in the tax base, specifically the new development in the city of Schenectady by  DV's dem buddies, rather I have produced EVIDENCE that it has resulted in a DRASTIC REDUCTION in the tax base, DV kis too embarrassed to respond

this town has had willy-nilly developement all based on the small number of developers and landowners who have
no oversight as to the comp plan of which the local 'big fish' refuse to uphold......THE FUTURE,,,,are you kidding me....
this town needs an enema, but you can see that the city is moving in.....we will fall under those those tracks and turn
into mont pleasant.....

the standard and bar is low....very very low....I WANT CHANGE....change from the same old same OLD SAME OLD....

get it.....OLD....OLD IDEAS...OLD FAMILIA.....

increased HOUSING MEANS:

increased school resources
increased plowing resources
increased branch/leaf removal resources
increased electric resources
increased gas by town truck resouces
etc etc etc.....

IT DOESN'T MEAN there are companies/jobs to support such housing and resources required....WHAT F'EN PLANET
DO YOU LIVE ON?.....oh wait,,,your head is up the developers a$$es.......that's how they feed you

a) There is no entity named Metrograft that receives any tax dollars.
b) The discussion was about lowering tax rates and that can be done in one of two ways -- increasing revenues (which can be accomplished by increasing/expanding the tax base) or cutting spending --- there is NO third way

You are SOOOOOOO STUUUUUUUPID DV.    You don't get the message in using the word "Metrograft" do you.

DV, There IS an entity, officially called Metroplex, that receives MILLIONS of tax dollars and spends FAR MORE than it receives.   It also is in collusion with the dems in the city to make the homeowners pay all the property taxes for downtown.

Most importantly Metroplex (sometimes referred to as Metrograft and other names) is causing a DRASTIC REDUCTION in the tax base in the ctiy.

Those are FACTS and I have presented THE EVIDENCE from official sources and you cannot dispute that.  Of course, being too embarrassed as you are to acknowledge that Metroplex and the dems are ruining the city, you of course will NOT respond and address the wild uncontrolled spending my Metroplex.

Rotterdam builder failed to respect private land

I am writing re the Dec. 25 article, “Couple says town survey shows developer encroaching on land”: I have been a resident of Ghents Road for over 60 years. I am the last house at the dead end of Ghents Road. I live at the end of the private driveway owned by the Hodges. I have an easement in my deed allowing me to use the private driveway.
Town Attorney Kate McGuirl states that Rotterdam has ownership of all town roads. What Ms. McGuirl does not understand, and this is clearly shown on the survey maps, is Ghents Road ends and a single-lane, private driveway (my easement) starts.
The town has never touched that driveway; it has never plowed or maintained the driveway in any way. The town gave this developer the right to build his “McMansion” on the Hodges’ property and public highway. The town fails to mention the fact that we had a beautiful functional circular turnaround maintained by the town for over 20 years, and they allowed the builder to rip it up and put a house on it.
The builders’ workers park their cars on the Hodges’ private driveway regularly, so I cannot get out of my property. God forbid if my house caught fire or I needed an ambulance to get to my house. There is no way these vehicles could get there because the private driveway is blocked every day.
The one-lane driveway is not Ghents Road! Why can’t Ms. McGuirl and the Planning Board understand this?
The town needs to admit that mistakes were made in planning and development, and resolve them. No one objects to the Helderberg Meadows development. We object to the town allowing this builder to build a house less than 15 feet off an existing private driveway and ripping up public highway to [allow] a “McMansion.”
The scary part of this is it could happen to anyone who lives and owns a private road in Rotterdam.
