A Well Regulated Militia... Why is it that the Rabid Right daily pounds their fist with "The Right To Bear
Arms"  but seldom even comments on the rest of the amendment?
The Right To Bear Arms has run it's course... now it's time for the "Well Regulated Militia" to exercise it's
part of the amendment.

One view:

"So here’s what should happen now. Congress should tell states, in the wake of this surely worse
epidemic of gun violence, that they must put some substance into the phrase “well-regulated militia.”
They must define well-regulated militia to include not only the National Guard, but all legally
registered gun-owners in the state.
If they fail to do so, and in line with the precedent set by
the drinking-age act, they risk losing 10 percent of their federal law-enforcement funding.

Why not? Who could argue with such a move? It would be precisely in the spirit of the Second
Amendment as worded, in which the right to keep and bear arms is granted within the context
of the existence of such a militia. The founders spoke explicitly of said militia. So, let’s make it!

Legally registered gun-owners would become members of each state’s more broadly construed
militia. They would not, obviously, be required to report for service on certain weekends like
Guard members do. But their membership in this broader militia would come with certain responsibilities.

First, they could be obliged by law to keep their guns in a locked, steel safe to which only the
registered owner has access. They could also be obliged to undergo certain testing and
evaluation before being permitted to own certain kinds of guns—or, depending on the state,
barred from owning certain types of guns at all, or barred from keeping them at home (that is,
they could buy and own them, but they would have to keep those guns at the firing range,
which after all is the only place where they can be legitimately used).

Obviously, hunting rifles would not be covered here under any circumstance, and maybe the
federal law could even state that explicitly, so that legitimate sportsmen could rest easy and
the National Rifle Association wouldn’t be able to play that card. Congress could toss a few
other little sweeteners into such legislation—for example, it could subsidize the purchase of
steel safes for a short time, much as it is about to subsidize the purchase of health insurance.
Something tells me conservatives wouldn’t caterwaul about this subsidy so much!

States have many of these powers even now, but this step—making the enforcement of
these standards the work of the states, and not of Washington—would be key, and it would
take another big weapon, as it were, out of conservatives’ hands. They always want to
send things down to the states, right? So, let’s do it. The federal government could never
pass a law imposing all of these limitations. The votes would probably never exist for that,
not even in the new, post-Newtown climate. And doing so might not be constitutional under
current interpretations of the Second Amendment. But the states should have a pretty clear
path. And, as I noted above, the Supreme Court has ruled that the federal government can
pass laws that indirectly influence how states behave."

...more politicizing tragedy in order to impose a dictatorship, a la' Hitler.

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

My post is about the 2nd Amendment:
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State,
the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

If Graham sees a 'tragedy' or 'Hitler'  in the second amendment, that's his problem.

Educate yourself regarding the 'legal government approved drug dealers'......................Phamaceutical companies have cornered the market on capitalism and on dumbing down society with 'government approved' mind altering drugs. Capitalism is ok...and it's ok if these company ceo's are personally making millions as long as it has the 'GOV ALMIGHTY'S stamp of approval'.

Everyone needs to question EVERYTHING from their government.....left or right!!!

Good! Then let's question how long it will take to get effective gun laws in this country!

Message boards are not propaganda.  Doesn't reach enough people.  We've discussed this.

US propaganda convinces people extradudicial is lawful.  Spying on US citizens is lawful.  Indefinite detention is lawful. Making arguments against illegal acts by government on a message board isn't propaganda.

Sure.  If it's a problem, then discuss it.  Laws restricting abortion, laws restricting health care...
Laws restricting voting... Are all valid discussions.

First let's see how long it will take to get laws passed preventing US government guns and
drones from committing murder.

You merely seek to wag the dog.

You seek to divert and divide the nation.

You support US government terrorism.

If you want to be taken seriously regarding the deaths of the innocents, you have to stand with
those who oppose the deaths of all innocents.

Not just the non-US government supported deaths of the innocent.

Supporting government murder, while denouncing non-government murder is leftover
blind patriotism from your participation in the war.

Don't forget US military drones and US military deaths around the world.

Again, the topic is "well regulated militia" and Gun Control.  Not Drones.
As with the "School Shooting" thread, you seem to have a problem staying on topic.
If you'd rather discuss drones instead of this thread topic,  "well regulated militia", please
start a thread on that topic and I'd be glad to respond.

we already have very very very effective gun laws in this country.

what we lack is an oversight on these pharmaceutical companies that are given a free pass to dispense mind altering drugs to 'kids' which is ok'd by GOV ALMIGHTY.

don't see the LAME STREAM MEDIA ADDRESSING THAT ONE...EH?

can't divide the sheople or make it political or generate enough revenue on that subject....since 1/2 of the population are already dumbed down on these psycho drugs!

The conversation never starts with restricting government authority or the government’s weapons of oppression.  The person that attempts to have that conversation is immediately labeled "anti-government".   But when the government wants to disarm the public's ability for personal protection through pre-emptive regulation, they are noble, and righteous.  They are the good people.

I'd love to see these legislators and the president give up their armed security detail to set an example that their lives are no more valuable than the common American.

The weapons wielded by government agents kill at a MUCH HIGHER rate than weapons held by non government agents. It's never a topic for public debate, never outrage, just part as business as usual, almost always excused as justified.
