The Alan Guttmacher Institute (a special affiliate to Planned Parenthood), which actively collects the abortion data directly from providers.  All numbers reported are voluntary; there are no laws requiring abortionists to report to any national agency the numbers of abortions they perform. 2009-2011 are estimates of 1,212,400 annually.

A.D.H.D. Study Suggests Links Between Medication and Fewer Crimes
By PAM BELLUCK
Published: November 21, 2012

A large study suggests that people with serious attention deficit hyperactivity disorder are less likely to commit crimes when taking medication.

Well: Younger Students More Likely to Get A.D.H.D. Drugs (November 20, 2012)
Health Guide: ADHD
The study, published in The New England Journal of Medicine, examined records of 25,000 people in Sweden to see if those with A.D.H.D. had fewer criminal convictions when taking medication than when they were not.

Of 8,000 people whose medication use fluctuated over a three-year period, men were 32 percent less likely and women were 41 percent less likely to have criminal convictions while on medication. Patients were primarily young adults, many with a history of hospitalization. Crimes included assault, drug offenses and homicide as well as less serious crimes. Medication varied, but many took stimulants like Ritalin.

“The study adds a lot,” said Dr. Gabrielle Carlson, director of child and adolescent psychiatry at Stony Brook University medical school, who was not involved in the study. “Cutting the crime rate, that’s not trivial. Maybe it will get some help for people in jail. It gives people who were on the fence maybe a little more confidence in this treatment.”

Studies suggest that people with A.D.H.D. are more likely to commit crimes. And while people, especially boys, are often prescribed medication as children, they often resist taking it as teenagers. Studies have not shown that medication has long-term effects on symptoms.

Dr. Paul Lichtenstein, a study author and a professor at Karolinska Institute, cautioned against concluding that everyone with A.D.H.D. should be continuously medicated.

“There are pros and cons to medication,” he said. But “in young adults, the age where criminality is most common, you should consider medication because it is more harmful for these people to be involved in criminal activities. Also for prisoners and people who have left prison.”

Researchers said that correlations between medication and decreased crime held regardless of the type of medication or crime and the presence of other disorders. They tried to determine if patients stopped treatment because of criminal convictions, but found that treatment itself appeared linked to fewer crimes.

Among psychiatric experts, when, and sometimes whether, to prescribe A.D.H.D. medication is still debated. Drugs do not work for everyone, and side effects can include jittery feelings and suppressed appetite and growth.

William Pelham, director of the Center for Children and Families at Florida International University, said nondrug therapies like behavioral modification worked as well as medication in the short run. He said that the study did not prove that medication caused less criminality, and because most subjects were seriously ill adults, the results were irrelevant for most American children.

Jason Fletcher, an associate professor at the Yale School of Public Health, said that despite some weaknesses, the study provided a “very suggestive piece of evidence” supporting medication. “Because crime is so expensive, if you can reduce it, even by half of what they’re saying, you might still say this is really effective medication.”

He did wonder if medication is reducing crime or “making better criminals,” who avoid arrest. Dr. Lichtenstein deemed that unlikely. “I don’t think you would commit the crime,” he said, “and then just not get caught.”

Mental Hygiene: Proposed actions for the Mental Hygiene agencies include reforming and restructuring state and local programs and administrative practices, establishing regional centers of excellence for state-operated inpatient psychiatric facilities, enhancing community mental health services, utilizing less costly and more effective in-state community residences, placing aggressive cost controls on agency operations, and maximizing payments from third-party payers. The Executive Budget invests $10 million to ensure that individuals receiving court-ordered services and those being discharged from State psychiatric hospitals have access to services in the community to ensure continuity of care.

Public Safety: The Executive Budget helps to implement the NY SAFE Act, including creating a database for gun permits to allow the state to identify those with a firearms license who no longer legally qualify to possess a firearm. The Budget proposes that an existing $11.4 million in funding for Alternatives to Incarceration be restructured as a competitive grant program targeting the highest risk offenders. The Budget includes legislation to reform the traffic adjudication process will help improve public safety and help reduce the loss of $58 million annually in state revenue that is caused by the existing process.

Drunk driving fatality reduction occurred world wide.

Even where roadblocks didn't exist.

Stop trying to claim victory for natural fluctuations.

Violent crime went down overall everywhere too.

Well, except for Australia and the UK where they banned guns and violent crime skyrocketed.

because eventually EVERYONE knows someone/has seen someone/met someone who knows someone who was
killed/injured by drunk driver/texter/DUI etc etc....

THAT'S how humans learn....THAT'S why we are humans...NO the world isn't safe NO MATTER WHAT THE ELITE
GOD/LEADERS say....removing a human's right to learn is wrong hence 'CAUTION:CONTENTS HOT'

keeping humans 'innocently civilized' is insidiously wrong and makes for personal trust of a machine...kind of like lab
rats.....

N.R.A. DEFENDS RIGHT TO OWN POLITICIANS

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—In testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee today,
National Rifle Association C.E.O. Wayne LaPierre warned that the N.R.A. would vigorously oppose
any legislation that “limits the sale, purchase, or ownership of politicians.”
“Politicians pose no danger to the public if used correctly,” said Mr. LaPierre, who claims to have
over two hundred politicians in his personal collection. “Everyone hears about the bad guys in
Congress. Well, the only thing that stops a bad guy with a vote is a good guy with a vote. I’m
proud to be the owner of many of those guys.”
Mr. LaPierre’s comments drew a sharp rebuke from Carol Foyler, a politician-control advocate
who has spent the past twelve years lobbying for stricter limits on the sale of politicians.
“Right now, a man like Wayne LaPierre can walk right into Congress and buy any politician he
wants,” she said. “There’s no background check, no waiting period. And so hundreds of
politicians are falling into the hands of people who are unstable and, quite frankly, dangerous.”
In addition to limiting the sale of politicians, Ms. Foyler said, it is time for society to take a
look at the “sheer number” of politicians in the U.S.: “There’s no doubt that we would be safer
if there were fewer of them.”
For his part, the N.R.A. leader ended his testimony by serving notice that he would “resist any
attempt” to take away the hundreds of elected officials he says are legally his.

As if to illustrate that point, he clutched Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) close to his
chest and bellowed, “From my cold, dead hands.”

Homicide is the leading cause of death for non-Hispanic black male teenagers.
The risk of dying from homicide among non-Hispanic black male teenagers (39.2 per 100,000 population)
is more than twice that of Hispanic males (17.1 per 100,000 population)
and about 15 times that of non-Hispanic white males (2.6 per 100,000 population).

The leading causes of death for the teenage population remained constant throughout the period 1999-2006:
Accidents (unintentional injuries) (48% of deaths),
homicide (13%)
suicide (11 %)

The risk of dying from homicide among non-Hispanic black male teenagers (39.2 per 100,000 population)

So we should disallow black teenagers from possessing guns?

Logically we should allow them to carry guns for self defense.

When DC enacted a gun ban the courts overturned the ban using the following statement:

Senior Judge Laurence H. Silberman wrote in the majority opinion that “the black market for handguns
in the District is so strong that handguns are readily available (probably at little premium) to criminals.
It is asserted, therefore that the D.C. gun control laws irrationally prevent only law abiding citizens from
owning handguns.”

Therefore we should allow anyone obviously threatened by the black market supply of guns to legally carry them.

Any law abiding black male between 12 and 19 should be allowed the Constitutional right to self defense
since he is in the most targeted group of victims. This is arguably the approach that would reduce the number
of black teenagers from being victims.

If the black market can't be stopped, the victims must be allowed to defend themselves legally.

L4Life falls all over him/herself to post that I want to take away the 2nd amendment...

"the victims must be allowed to defend themselves legally".

Regardless of what I post, his agenda won't recognize that I support the right to bear arms... and I don't want to
keep Americans from defending themselves.
I do want some good gun laws that reduces gun violence... so does the majority of Americans, including the
majority of NRA members.

L4Life will continue to post his false accusations, he has no choice... he cannot accept that I, like the majority
of Americans, want to limit gun deaths with out disarming the USA.

I support the 2nd amendment...
and
I support good gun laws.

Wow, Good reply(diversion) to apparently voices in your head. I never mentioned you or gun grabbing.

You posted that black males were most likely to die from gun violence.

I replied and commented on exactly that and nothing else using the court rulings to suggest that the victims
have a right to carry guns in self defense. You totally hallucinated it into a paranoid delusion of me falling all
over myself, attacking you as a second amendment abolitionist.

Sounds like you had LSD for breakfast. Cuckoo...cuckoo. cuckoo...
