The NRA helped write federal laws restricting gun use.

For nearly a century after, its founding in 1871, the National Rifle Association was among America’s
foremost pro-gun control organizations. It was not until 1977 when the NRA that Americans know
today emerged, after libertarians who equated owning a gun with the epitome of freedom and fomented
widespread distrust against government—if not armed insurrection—emerged after staging a hostile
leadership coup.

In the years since, an NRA that once encouraged better markmanship and reasonable gun control laws
gave way to an advocacy organization and political force that saw more guns as the answer to
society’s worst violence, whether arming commercial airline pilots after 9/11 or teachers after the
Newtown, while opposing new restrictions on gun usage.

It is hard to believe that the NRA was committed to gun-control laws for most of the 20th
century—helping to write most of the federal laws restricting gun use until the 1980s.

How many successful break ins to the cockpit have we had since 9/11 and the new security measures (supported by Democrats also)???

How many were there before 9/11?
Did strengthening the cockpit doors, removing peepholes and added security measure when the cockpit door is opened have anything to do with that?????
Considering the recent issues with Pilots under the influence, and the Pilot that went looney-tunes in the middle of a flight, I'm a little concerned that they are armed!!!!!

There have been no US hijackings since 9/11.

The US only saw 2 hijacking attempts in the 90s, 3 in the 80s, but 13 in the 70s and 5 in the 60s.

There are no other US hijackings on record.

okay, SO AM I CORRECT THAT THERE WERE NO SUCCESSFUL COCKPIT DOOR RELATED HIJACKINGS THAT OCCURRED PRIOR TO 9/11?

AND AS FAR AS PREVENTING COCKPIT DOOR HIGHJACKING SINCE 9/11,  IS PILOTS ALLOWED TO CARRY WEAPONS THE DETERRENT OR:

That should have said hijackings/attempts.

Of the 5 hijackings/attempts between 1978 and 2001

1 was hijacked from Texas to New Mexico

2 were US airliners hijacked overseas traveling between 2 non - US destinations.

1 non-US airliner was hijacked in Frankfurt Germany and hijacked to JFK.

1 Was a Fedex employee who tried to hijack the plane to crash it into the Fedex offices.

On February 16, 1983 an Iranian man, Hussein Shey Kholya, hijacked a Rio Airways Dash 7 flight Killeen, TX ILE- Dallas, TX DFW. The plane landed in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico

1985: Lebanese Shi'a Amal hijackers divert TWA Flight 847 from Athens to Beirut with 153 people on board. The stand-off ends after Israel frees 31 Lebanese prisoners. Among the passengers was famous Greek singer Demis Roussos. US Navy diver Robert Stethem is tortured and murdered.

1986: 22 people are killed when Pakistani security forces storm Pan Am Flight 73 at Karachi, carrying 360 passengers and crew after a 16-hour siege. The flight was en route to Frankfurt from Mumbai, India when the flight was hijacked on the ground in Karachi.

February 11, 1993: Lufthansa Flight 592 scheduled service from Frankfurt to Cairo and Addis Ababa, was hijacked at gunpoint by Nebiu Demeke, an Ethiopian man. The A310 initially flew to Hannover for fuel before flying to New York's JFK where the hijacker surrendered after brief negotiations. No passengers or crew were injured or killed.

1994: FedEx Flight 705 experienced an attempted hijack by disgruntled employee Auburn Calloway as it left Memphis, Tennessee, with the intention of using it as a cruise missile against FedEx HQ. He was subdued by the flight crew before an emergency landing back at Memphis.

Federal Air Marshalls currently are armed on less than 1 percent of most US flights.

I'm sure after 9/11 all planes had anti hijacking software installed to take control of the planes from the ground
if they fail to respond or go off course. If it hasn't been done, it would seem to be negligence.

9/11 was a coordinated attack. Aside from that day, hijacking hasn't been a big issue. Accidental plane crashes are the
leading cause of death.

but were they cockpit high jacking or were they hostage/threat high jacking that caused the cockpit crew to open the door...it does make a difference?
I'm not defending any of it, especially since I travel so much....I'll admit, high jacking is always on my mind when I fly since 9/11. Guess the only thing I was trying to point out was that allowing Pilots to carry is likely only a small contributor to the lack of cockpit violations.

I also doubt if you armed every pilot on every plane would prevent a hijacking.

I don't believe that a hostage type hijack could even cause a pilot to open the door.

I just don't think there are many persons ready to give their lives for what will likely be a failed hijacking attempt.

If a handful of birds can take down an airliner, a few idiots with shotguns near a runway could probably cause a
crash easily, without giving up their own lives in the process.

I truly believe that their likely aren't more than 1 or 2 people on Earth looking to hijack a plane. They would be
morons, of course.

I really think airport security is a bunch of BS that never could prevent a crazy person from his mission.

I would say that a luggage bomb would be more likely than anything else if someone wanted to take down
a plane. If the person is willing to die in the blast, I doubt you could prevent it.

Again, I think the entire country is hysterical and knee-jerking itself out of billions in added costs of security
and searches.

You can't prevent terrorism. With any amount of money. An idiot with a book of matches could set fire to a
dozen states in the summer. How could you ever protect society from these types of actions?

You can't. The only solution is to stop sacrificing free travel for searches and security that could never stop a
real threat.

As far as I'm concerned, the terrorists have already won by making us change our behavior.

If you don't want foreigners coming here to kill Americans, stay out of their business in their countries.

Coming here to commit terror is a reaction to events in their countries. Do you believe for one minute t
hat the remaining Al Queda members will just fade away after their leaders and bystanders were drone
assassinated? They will be more determined than ever.

Shoot one drone, 100 new enemies are born. Revenge is very popular these days.

New Jersey's Gov. Christie blasted the NRA’s new ad focusing on President Obama’s daughters.
He called it “reprehensible”.

Christie’s extensive comments on the issues of guns and violence came during a news conference
this afternoon at the Statehouse in which Christie announced the creation of a task force to
examine “violence control” measures in the wake of the shooting massacre in Sandy Hook.

Who is this Ron Paul guy???
Isn't he a failed congressman who never amounted to much in passing legislation to help his country...
Isn't he the guy who voted AGAINST hurricane aid for his own district???

Isn't he the embarrassment of a presidential candidate who keeps on talking long after any one cares???
Ross Perot 1992
Percent of the Popular Vote: 18.6

George Wallace 1968
Percent of the Popular Vote: 13.5

Ralph Nader 2000
Percent of the Popular Vote: 2.74

and last, and certainly LEAST:
RON PAUL 2008

Percent of the Popular Vote: 0.03

So tell us again... why should anyone care about what this loser has to say???
