According to a poll conducted in May by Republican pollster Frank Luntz, NRA members, overwhelmingly support measures typically described as “gun control:
1. Requiring criminal background checks on gun owners and gun shop employees. 87 percent of non-NRA gun-owners and 74 percent of NRA gun owners support the former, and 80 percent and 79 percent, respectively, endorse the latter.
2. Prohibiting terrorist watch list members from acquiring guns. Support ranges from 80 percent among non-NRA gun-owners to 71 percent among NRA members.
3. Mandating that gun-owners tell the police when their gun is stolen. 71 percent non-NRA gun-owners support this measure, as do 64 percent of NRA members.
4. Concealed carry permits should only be restricted to individuals who have completed a safety training course and are 21 and older. 84 percent of non-NRA and 74 percent of NRA member gun-owners support the safety training restriction, and the numbers are 74 percent and 63 percent for the age restriction.
5. Concealed carry permits shouldn’t be given to perpetrators of violent misdemeanors or individuals arrested for domestic violence. The NRA/non-NRA gun-owner split on these issues is 81 percent and 75 percent in favor of the violent misdemeanors provision and 78 percent/68 percent in favor of the domestic violence restriction.

I have no problems with any of this..However, none of these would have affected the Newtown shooting.

Look at the numbers! Even NRA Gun Nuts are pro gun restrictions... yet the NRA who's only interest is the arms manufacturers, fights these popular laws.
The NRA... the group who opposed laws against Teflon bullets... who opposed laws against armor piercing bullets, the group who opposed any law that might cut into the profits of Gun Makers and Chemical companies.

Again, I'm not arguing you with about any of it... What I am saying is that NONE of it would have made a difference in Newtown... The issue of the acceptance and celebration of violence in popular culture is much complex than passing new laws. I'm waiting to see if Obama has the courage to go after ALL players in this game..Hollywood, video game makers, a serious look at re-institutionalizing mental health patients etc... in ADDITION to just passing gun laws....with action instead of speeches...This is as important an issue as tobacco... The action against big tobacco to me has always bordered on violating their rights, but is accepted because of the public good that is gained.. Let's see if they do the same for violence.

These NRA members are the extreme side of this issue. The "pry my cold dead fingers from the trigger" people. If the NRA extremists are willing to pass these laws, the rest of America (middle America) is more than willing to start passing laws, like a ban on assault weapons, and restricting large capacity magazines.

Pass all of it... But understand the desperate will do the desperate....and there will be PLENTY of people, already on the periphery, that will fill the need on the black market.

Because anyone that supports the NRA is a 'right wing extremist' and not responsible gun owners. Right?
It is people like you, Boxy, who are extremist in thier view that the ONLY people who should have a gun (of any type) is government.
It's kind of ironic if you think about it. Boxy would be the first person on the phone calling someone with a gun to protect him from someone with a gun.

Buck, Again you post with your assumptions, not FACTS. Why do you suppose that I own no guns? Why do you suppose that I oppose the 2nd amendment?
I've fired a huge unknown number of rounds... probably 100,000 or so in my lifetime. Pistol, machine gun, rocket launcher, shotgun, even a few artillery and a flame thrower. I know a little about guns, and I know that the only way to end the shootings like those in Conn is to begin reasonable gun laws in the USA.

Again if you want gun control then it should be across the board, no assault weapons for police, no assault weapons for our military. No but I bet you wouldn't support that right because those are the people YOU depend on for your safety. To you people like me are foolish for providing their own safety, to you it's insane for not relying on the cops.

I, unlike a few on this board, don't fear the police. The police seldom carry assault weapons on regular duty, and don't usually need them. On rare occasions, the police would be outgunned if they had none at their disposal. Owning a gun for self protection is not unreasonable in most cases. Owning a machine gun, flame thrower or rocket launcher IS unreasonable. I feel the same way about assault weapons.

boxy thinks that carrying a government issued gun, while wearing a government issued uniform, killing thousands of innocent, in the name of GOD & COUNTRY, is OK!!! OMG!!
STOP the government from issuing government approved psyco drugs on these kids!!!!! Petition the teacher's UNION and arm the schools....they are/were defenseless.

You don't support the 2nd amendment, you support some watered down version of what the 2nd amendment is for. And so you agree that the police need assault weapons for protection but for me to own one for the same reason should be illegal,,um yeah I don't think so.
