Police have consistently said that tracking guns from cradle to grave would help immensely in apprehending those who use them illegally. A gun stolen in NY, then trafficked through gun runners to Nevada, then sold to a criminal who gets caught would then bring down not only the criminal but his source for illegal guns.
Once its stolen its stolen, if the serial numbers are on it then chances are they can find out who it was stolen from but not who stole it originally. The only thing they could trace is what the suspect tells them, if the suspect tells them nothing they couldn't trace jack $hit except the original buyer through the serial numbers. You act as if the person who stole it and then sold it to the gun smuggler would register it, are you nuts.

the truth of the matter is.......and any 'foreigner' will confirm....that 99% of ALL illegal guns in this country are coming across our boarders!!! they change hands hundreds of times...over and over and over! actually they laugh at our government's misguided attempt at gun control....TRUE!!!
.........and NO..........NONE of them are EVER registered....DUH!

No one seriously thinks that there won't be illegal guns... there will probably be a market for them forever... but... as they become more rare, they become more expensive. They become less accessible to criminals.
Tougher laws and harsher sentences for drugs was the cause of gun violence, genius.
Even tougher laws will only make criminals that much more deadly and more violent.
Not to mention all the legal gun owners who will no longer support you idiots.
According to the link, This was an ILLEGAL GUN. The serial numbers were ground off so it was probably stolen. The proposal to track a gun from manufacture to it being destroyed would eliminate much of this problem. The guy who sold this gun knew it was illegal, and the man buying it knew it too. The more guns of this type on the streets the more death they will bring.
'illegal gun'...funny...if he had purchased rope on line and hung himself would his death meant less???? what if he got melanoma from being in the 'dangerous sun' what if a friend let him borrow a hair dryer AFTER the caution label was removed and he took a bath and brought the hair dryer into the bath with him while it was plugged in.....
...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......
The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.

According to the police, it's common to apprehend interstate gun runners when a small time crook Is caught with an illegal weapon. They will offer immunity for the gun charger for info on the gun runners, usually federal charges.

Yes I agree on that but that is only due to the one criminal talking, serial numbers on a gun can not track down ownership when being passed illegally through different hands, that is why registering guns make zero sense because it can only track the original legal buyer. If the legal buyers arms are stolen then he should report the items and serial numbers to the police. But the argument registering guns will make us safer is bs and there is no proof to it.

As the Senate gets set to show that you can fight the National Rifle Association, let’s consider what has to be the worst reason ever put forward by anyone to oppose anything in the entire history of the human race: that the actions under consideration “won’t prevent” future tragedies or “wouldn’t have prevented” such-and-such sociopath from unloading hundreds of rounds into the bodies of children. Gun nuts invoke this argument as if it’s some kind of clincher, a discussion-ender. It’s anything but. It shows total ignorance about the reasons that we make laws in the first place.

A new Washington Post-ABC News poll finds most Americans, including half of all gun owners, "say it is possible to enact new laws without infringing on gun rights, and overwhelming majorities support expanded background checks at gun shows and for online gun sales."

I like the Republican plan to support the expanded background checks in exchange for carry concealed reciprocity.
