"Approval ratings go up and down for various reasons... An example is the high post 911 support for GWB even though he could be said to be responsible for the event." --- Box A Rox '9/11 Truther'

Israel has been at war since the 1940's... their enemy isn't across an ocean, or across a desert, their enemies and there are a lot of them, are living on their borders. Living in a war zone there is always a threat of an attack.

Israel has been at war since the 1940's... their enemy isn't across an ocean, or across a desert, their enemies and there are a lot of them, are living on their borders. Living in a war zone there is always a threat of an attack.
Yet, the drug war, the war on terror and raging Chicago gangstas don't qualify.
The US government escalated their internal wars and you wonder why people fight to keep their guns, living in the crossfire between the government gangs and the independent gangs. An average of 10 people a week die in Chicago's drug war. Oblivious to the fact that the enforcement and illegality causes fifty times the violence and death in society, the losing war continues. One hundred years have passed and Chicago still chooses war over prohibited consumption of non-government approved substances.
But don't let the 77% of the entire Chicago budget going to public safety and still remain the crime and murder capital of the US, and half the world, influence policy.
Yet they still managed to give away $280 million in city development grants.
Examine the following chart closely and the first thing you will see is firearm related deaths went down from 1994 to 1999, but it wasn't assault weapons ban related. Drug sentences were reduced, the prison populations began to decline freeing up money to put more cops on the street.
Next, the three lines at the bottom,
the gold line representing the number of firearms owned per 10,000 people remained virtually stable and has changed expectedly proportional to the growth in US population, totally unchanged by the weapons ban.
The purple line representing firearm related deaths per 100,000,000 firearms. Again virtually unchanged since 1999.
The black line representing firearm related deaths per 100,000,000 people. Again virtually unchanged since 1999
Now the evil blue line that represents the total number of firearms in the us. It runs almost exactly parallel to the population growth. Totally oblivious to the handgun or the assault weapons ban.
This leaves us the other evil line, the red one which represents the total number of firearm related deaths. At first glance it appears to be worsening, but it is in fact following the population rise except for a slight rise in 2002 and a considerable dip in 2004 as the assault weapons ban ended. But basically it has been following the growth rate of the population almost parallel and proportionally.
One last thing, perhaps the most important. The gray shaded colunms represent the number of states that allow shall carry licenses and it jumped by 33% and gun deaths immediately plummeted.
It may seem like gun deaths have grown disproportionally to the growth of the population, but actually it has remained constant. The awareness of every shooting, the sensationalistic reporting of each incident, the propaganda, the extreme growth of instantaneous news reporting of every event, targeting reaction inducing coverage and the changing values of society, where everyone wants to become a piece of the CNN news report for their 15 minutes of reality TV fame, or remembered long after their murder suicide rampage, instead of what likely would have been a unnoticed life of an average person, all make it appear that it is of epidemic proportion.
In reality, it is nothing more than fear induced hysteria produced by professional news agencies seeking to get a bigger hysterical reaction out of society than each other.
It's called bad behavior.
Anyone who has ever had kids know full well that kids will take bad attention over lack of attention always.
We need to stop the hype, stop the panic, and chill the hell out. Nothing has changed.
All violent crime in the US came down at the same time as firearm deaths, immediately following the 33% increase in states that allow shall carry licenses.
It's always helpful to read the fine print at the bottom of the page... for perspective:
"Data provided by the CDC, NCIPC WISQUARS report system, BATE SHOOTING INDUSTRY MAGAZINE, SMALL ARMS SURVEY OF 2003 (I love this next one)... "RADICAL GUN NUTTERY," Clayton Cramer and David Kopel. (Cramer writes a regular column on gun owners' rights and related issues for "Shotgun News". David Kopel is a Fellows at the Cato Institute, and is a benefactor member of the National Rifle Association.)
For a group who exposes to 'question everything'... they certainly didn't 'question' the validity of the FACTS OF THEIR GRAPH.
Why not a graph by FoxSnooze, Wayne La Pierre, or by Ted Nugent???

The National Terrorism Advisory System, or NTAS, replaces the color-coded Homeland Security Advisory System (HSAS). This system will more effectively communicate information about terrorist threats by providing timely, detailed information to the public, government agencies, first responders, airports and other transportation hubs, and the private sector.
It recognizes that Americans all share responsibility for the nation's security, and should always be aware of the heightened risk of terrorist attack in the United States and what they should do.
