82 Billion?

We spend 52 billion a year building new nuclear weapons.
I guess they have a short shelf life.
Just for the record, 46 million people receive food stamps,
therefore,
82 billion divided by 46 million divided by 52 weeks per year equals 37 dollars per person per week.
14 million jobless in the US and twice that number underemployed.
So your figures look about right for the economic conditions.

Really, we have to outspend the next top 20 countries of the world in military expense?
Food prices increased over 60% from 2008 through 2011 as they began adding alcohol to gasoline,
Plus the transportation costs have risen dramatically.
So, really, 52 billion a year building new nuclear weapons.

We have over 8,000 nuclear weapons stockpiled.
We have enough to extinguish all life on earth.
But it's more important to be able to destroy the Earth 37 times than to make sure the poor are fed.
I guess we need to have enough on hand in case we have to fight a nuclear war with alien forces in space.
