We have some broken gold jewelry. Is it a good time to cash it in or hang on to it? And if it is a good time....anyone know who pays the most? And what is a 'penny weight' ? We have gotten conflicting reports. thanks. |

Stay away from that place in Rotterdam Mall - I got about 60% more than they offered by going to Saratoga Coin in Colonie. What Rotterdam offered was an insult. The professionals at the coin shop knew what they were looking at and paid a fair price for it. Both estimates were received on the SAME day, so neither can say "market fluctuations".
I hear gold prices are headed back up - might want to wait a little, if you can. |

Hang on to it if you don't need the money now, prices are rising as Rusty said. Know how much you have in weight so if you do sell it they don't try to rip you off, also know what karat the items you have are, some dealers will say your 14k item is only 10K. You will never get spot price from a buy gold place because they also need to make a profit when they sell to a refinery but you shouldn't take less then 75% of the current spot price. Here is a site you can use to know exactly what you have http://gold.yabz.com/jewelry.htm |

Makes no difference if its penny weight, grams, or ounces, the weight is the weight. Stay clear of those stores at the mall they're rip offs who usually only offer 60% of the actual value. |

Someone told me that it is a risk either way....whether you sell it now or later.
The more that gold goes up, the higher risk of the government taxing or adding fees to gold sales......OR.....banning all gold sales.

Also bear in mind, that the purity affects the price as well. 24KT is going to be worth more than 18KT, and so on. |

Ok.......so last night we ventured to the rotterdam square mall with our junk gold. There is a place by the food court called jewels (i think)....they offered $845. Then a little way down that hallway, there was another place called empire coin (i think)...they offered $1100. We didn't take either offer. Anybody know anything about Silver? |

I hear that Ferris is the scraper they all sell to. Can anyone conform that? Where is it and is it safe to carry your gold down there? |

You've got over a grand in gold and you're trying to peddle it to mall vendors?? That just doesn't make ANY sense at all. |

I agree!! Like I said....we NEVER did this before. And we did walk away WITH OUR JUNK GOLD!! We asked about that Ferris....and yes they do sell to them. We don't even know where it is so we don't know how safe it is. |
