A federal judge in Connecticut on Tuesday ruled that Section 3 of the Defense of Marriage Act
(DOMA) violates the U.S. Constitution’s guarantee of equal protection under the law.

Judge Vanessa L. Bryant, an appointee of President George W. Bush, held that the law was
unconstitutional because it prohibits legally married same sex couples from receiving federal
benefits. DOMA defines marriage as the legal union between a man and a woman, contradicting
six states that allow same sex couples to marry.

I don't care who decides that the government is all knowing
I don't care if folks get together via stamped government paper work....been there done that...

however, the government and those who want to force the church/religion to change are wrong....

don't like the church's view on gay marriage then go to the government.....

that is choice....

...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......

The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.

If I'm understanding you correctly, I believe we have common ground in our thoughts on this issue. It's not fair for our government to give benefits to some married couples but not all or to be biased against someone because of their sexual preference. At the same time I think it's also unfair for the government to try and force churches/religious groups to honor or perform marriages they don't agree with.

What the church thinks about this issue is irrelevant.

But what the parishioners think is relevant.  If they want government out of their business, then they need to stay out of state business.  They've been dancing with the " devil" so to speak.

What the church thinks about this issue is irrelevant.  If the law is unconstitutional then it should be
changed regardless of what some religious sect thinks.

LOL-You said unconstitutional.  Be more accurate next time -  it was RULED unconstitutional.  Just like Citizen United.  I guess I don't have to listen to your opinions about the RULING, since there was an OFFICIAL RULING.

How cute, Box, actually acting like he cares about the Constitution.

either I missunderstood you, or you are not making sense.

I meant "unconstitutional".
And
Citizens United was ruled to be "constitutional".

Oops...You got me...I meant McCain Feingold was Unconstitutional and Citizen United was Constitutional.  Either way, whatever side of the issue you are on, it doesn't mean a private institution and those that belong to the institution's thoughts on the ruling are irrelevant. The point being, Constitutionality seems to be very subjective nowadays.

It will go to the Supreme Court -- and with Mitt Romney is the White House and the Republicans in control of the US Senate (and remaining in control of the House)  starting in January 2013 --- I expect that 2 or 3 VERY GOOD appointments will be made to the Supreme Court in the coming Presidential term of office.  Just enough to bring a stricter interpretation of the US Constitution firmly based on traditional Judeo-Christian values.

That has been the trend... Replacing supreme court judges with religious judges... Kind of like the
system they have in Iran.

If one's church does not marry under their roof or you get excommunicated because of such marriage then that
person goes to the state to get married and have their acceptable 'religion'...I really don't care...

what the church thinks should stay within their walls and those who participate in the church with a god are there
because they accept that god....

if those folks disagree then they can leave and go to the government to do whatever it is they want to do, but they
have no right to change said church....

if one is not religious and doesn't care what the church says then don't freakin' listen or follow it...

no different than the 'hollywood church'...WHO THE 'F' CARES ABOUT TOM CRUISE, THE KARDASHIANS, MIKE MOORE,
etc etc.....

I hate when hollywood speaks up at congressional hearings...
it's stupid when baseball players sit around rubbing elbows at congressional hearings about steroids...

the list is endless about how STUPID we are...

"live long and prosper"
"peace be with you"
"go and marry and have abortions"

...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......

The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.
