A woman died of injuries she received during an abortion at a local Planned Parenthood clinic Friday.

Tonya Reaves, 24, of the 1500 block of N. Kildare, was pronounced dead at 11:20 p.m. Friday at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office. She was taken to the hospital from the Planned Parenthood clinic at 18 S. Michigan Ave.

An autopsy done Saturday listed the woman’s cause of death to be hemorrhage, with a cervical dilation and evacuation, as well as an intrauterine pregnancy as contributing causes, according to the medical examiner’s office. Her death was ruled an accident.

Calls to local and national Planned Parenthood offices were not returned.

U.S. women are dying from childbirth at the highest rate in decades,
new government figures show. Though the risk of death is very small, experts believe increasing maternal
obesity and a jump in Caesarean sections are partly to blame.

The U.S. maternal mortality rate rose to 13 deaths per 100,000 live births in 2004, according to
statistics released this week by the National Center for Health Statistics.
The rate was 12 per 100,000 live births in 2003 — the first time the maternal death rate rose above
10 since 1977.

Excessive bleeding is one of the leading causes of pregnancy-related death, and women with several
previous C-sections are at especially high risk, according to a review of maternal deaths in New York.
Blood vessel blockages and infections are among the other leading causes.

Health statisticians note that the total number of maternal deaths in the US is around 600 each year.

I guess the title of this thread, if it's to be as truthful as the actual thread title should be:

Wow, Box is offering evidence that shows the statistical failure of Planned Parenthood and the Roe V Wade decision.  Roe V Wade was decided in 1973, and in 1977 the maternal death rate was 10 per 100,000 and has INCREASED to 13 per 100,000 in 2004.

Planned Parenthood is supposedly an organization that deals with the reproductive health of women.  You would think the logical impact of this organization would be FEWER maternal deaths...But, based on Box's statistics, it appears that Planned Parenthood hasn't done such a good job protecting women's health while giving birth.

Common liberal defense. When faced with the truth that what you stand for goes against what you say it stands for, start calling others names.

I was just pointing out that the national statistics of one of the women's health services PP provides is getting worse. I don't know if "serious' is the right word.  I'm just pointing it out.

So you actually were serious.

I'm surprised... I gave you more credit than you deserve.

Since there is a lot of misinformation and mistaken assumptions on the subject, for anyone who's
interested, check out the video.

Is anyone surprised that the death rate increased in the first few years of the George Worst Bush
administration?  Could the GOP war on women be responsible for the increased death rate?
I think so.  Legal, safe and affordable abortions have been all but eliminated in many states (Mississippi for
example) and the GOP war on Women has been successful in cutting funding to PP.

PP receives no taxpayer dollars to fund abortion... a FACT often ignored by the Right Wing Crazies.

The real result of the GOP war on women... more pregnancy, more abortion, more women dying in
childbirth, and if the trend continues, more women obtaining illegal abortions.

Why would any woman vote Republican???

Box, the statistics are measuring maternal death during child birth.  What the hell does abortion funding have to do with that?  Are you suggesting that the women that died while giving birth were only giving birth because abortion wasn't available?  That is a wild one box.

Box's solution to maternal mortality - MORE ABORTION FUNDING.
