Grow up and get over it!  I have a right to post my opinion.  So I would just like to see you try to stop me.

Anyway,  it was most definitely a positive experience working on a farm as a child.

I'm not disputing that the farm work was positive.

I was implying that not all who worked on the farm, grew up to be a positive influence.

It was comedy, at your expense.

Working on a farm is a great experience for young people.  I did it for a number of years when I was a teenager and in college.

Every day he went up the dirt road on his dung wagon to the poop pile where he packed in quite a quota. He still longs for the lasting largesse of his fanny farmer.

FACTS:

• An estimated 300 children die each year in farming accidents
• Farm children are twice as likely to die from an accident than their urban counterparts
• An estimated 30,000 children under 20 years of age are injured each year in farming accidents
• If children who visit or work on non-family farms are added the total is estimated to be close to
100,000 injuries
• Nearly 950 farm children suffer some type of permanent disability because of farm accidents an-
nually
• Approximately 90% of the fatalities and injuries occur to male children
• Children under the age of 16 comprise 20% of all farm fatalities

Quoted Text
I have no problem with kids working in a family business however, and many couldn't stay afloat without the kids help, but if the kids get hurt doing something they know is inherently dangerous, then the parents should have to answer for it.

I guess going to water parks/schools/bike riding/latchkey-kids etc and getting abducted doesn't count...

I would say the lesson/character nurtured in a human doesn't outweigh the danger....

eventually we will stop kids from carrying laptops/cell phones around because there's some dumba$$ stat...oh wait
FAILURE TO LAUNCH is always an option....along with childhood obesity....

folks moved to the city to 'have it easier' than fending for themselves...then complain about the cost and
the obesity....so then we carve out time for exercise that has always been natural on the farm...only now so
safe and sterile...

remove the man from land and remove his soul.....

parents purchasing video games
parents teaching kids about animals/botanicals/nature/work/choices/safety etc etc......

WOW...the options on this scale.....

...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......

The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.

DVOR,
You posted about working on a farm as a teen in college... 18? 19?
Kids working on farms are often preteen or early teens.  You wouldn't want them on the highway driving
cars in the oncoming lane... BECAUSE IT ISN'T SAFE.
For the same reason... they shouldn't be doing much of the farm work that is so dangerous.
Below is a graph of ADULT danger of farming:

Get them kids off the farms and into the abortion clinics, because, as we've been told, an abortion at 14 without parental consent is safer than farming with parental consent.  The state knows best.

All within the state, nothing outside the state, nothing against the state.

I worked on a farm for a few summers when I was under 16. All the work we did was far away from the dangerous machines..spreading hay, cleaning chicken coops and horse stalls. I think the only exposure to a farming machine I had was to a milking machine.

I'm betting most of the injuries and deaths come on small family farms where the children of the farm owner do the work.

As far as comparing kids in farm accidents to accidents involving urban kids... is a drive by or other drug related incident considered an accident? I bet its not.

Not off topic at all, just pointing out what the statist like yourself feel is safe and unsafe and when the state steps in to decide what is best for your children.  Box loves the state taking control of child rearing.  You can't keep that in the hands of the parents.  In the name of safety of course.

I think the kids should be custom fitted into hermetically sealed hypo-allergenic memory foam lined boxes, where they can have a feeding tube attached that will only provide them with the purest water and sustenance derived from high-grade vitamins. Their behinds could be fixed to a special tube where the poop can be sent to DVOR for disposal and they would never need to face the danger and unpleasantness of wiping their behinds for children HAVE died from e coli poisoning as statistics shall show. They will be assigned a Federal lawyer who would serve as their legal protector and that individual would threaten lawsuits to anyone who so much as had a frown as they approached these supreme beings. As they develop they could hear Yoga/Far Eastern music on earphones. They could then be locked into special fire, bomb and terrorist proof vaults from the time they are born until they reach 21, with special wires feeding their brains that will give them instruction and no unfavorable and unpleasant thoughts. All this while they may have the company of handmaidens, male role models who do domestic chores and are sensitive, and their mommies who could read them only fairy tales that have no violence, misogyny, hate speech or danger.

When the supreme beings leave they shall wear special light weight yet impervious body armor (no insult to the PD) and a helmet that is bullet proof, baseball bat proof, mortar proof and awful-sound proof. They shall be transported on armored public transportation that has been government maintained by Union labor (for we know that non-union private sector maintenance workers do not properly and safely maintain anything correctly) and whence they reach the age of 30 they shall be allowed to do light duty work at a Union approved rate, while seatbelted into a comfortable and OSHA approved ergonometric deskchair, These deskchairs would be designed so as never to tip, roll, slide out from-under, or collapse.  They shall by Federal Order be fed a vegan diet consisting of organic produce that was grown and picked with the purest and strongest illegal alien hands that is insoected one stalk at a time by Federal inspector who care more than any farmer could. And they would live nearly forever in perfect health, development and safety and their healthcare would be provided and approved only by the government since it is a statistical fact that unless one performs healthcare service under the tutelage and supervision of anyone but the central government it is very dangerous and such people do not care enough about the children (even the grown ones) to make certain they are COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY SAFE AT ALL TIMES!

No, the topic for me is "who decides what MY kids can and cannot do" - ME the parent, or the totalitarian state.  The state has decided that a 14 year old can get an abortion without parental notification subverting parental rights.  When the topic is SHOULD Kids work on Farms, the question is WHO DECIDES THAT - PARENTS OR BUREAUCRATS.

I think many parents would consider farm work a good job for their kids... and many farm jobs are a good
summer job for kids.
But
Unlike Cicero, who knows all and sees all... other parents, who unlike Cicero,  might not consider or even
realize that farm jobs are (for adults and kids) often dangerous.

This country has a history of kids being injured on the job... so child labor laws were invented to protect
our kids.
Possibly they should amend those laws, making them OPEN for children of Conservatives, and closed for
everyone else.  Since these Conservative parents seem to care less about the safety of their children,
and since Conservatives are fighting against these kids having universal access to health care...
It's one more example of Conservatives pushing their kids medical bills off on to the rest of the taxpaying
public.
Oh yea... since every post is about abortion for Cicero...
Abortions should also be closed to Conservatives kids but open to the rest of society.

Below is a graph of ADULT danger of farming:

I worked on a farm from my early teens through college (12 to 22) and was never hurt -- even haying and working with power equipment.

Cutting grass can be dangerous -- so should we ban children from helping cut their parents' lawn?
Automobile repairs can be dangerous -- so should we pass a law forbidding children from lifting the hood of an automobile or changing the oil?

Bottomline -- this Administration and the extremist liberals in Congress are hellbent on destroying family farms and small businesses.  They aren't really interested in safety -- except  safeguarding their continuous relection, tehir taxpayer funded trips, health care and retirements -- most of all .. all the money they get from lobbyists that make these career politicians multi-millionaires.

Our kids...I don't think so box.

But this is just a glaring example of totalitarian fascism in America.  It actually brainwashes people to believe that if you are born under the American flag, the political party in the ruling majority has control of the parental rights of ALL citizens. Box actually believes that his belief in what is safe and what is best for YOUR children should be forced upon all parents through government.  It doesn't matter if you are a widowed mother of two, and your 13 year old is ready willing and able to work and be productive - box says NO!  You must submit to the state and stand in line at the social services building and collect your government benefits.  WE(the state) WILL TAKE CARE OF YOU!

Hey CICERO....I read and read your posts and for the life of me cannot understand.....you are hell bent on the fact that this country is F*#@d up, and you appear to hate everything about it.......so why are you living here? And that is an honest question...not tyring to start a war. If I was as pi$$ed off at this coutnry as you appear to be, I would be looking to pack my family and move somewhere that my life would be better and far from as stressful.
