Friday at around 8pm I was traveling up the Northway and saw what looked like 2 commercial airliners flying north parallel with the Northway. They past me around Clifton Park and I watched them all the way up past Malta. I swear the nose of the rear plane was attached to the tail of the first one. This made me say, they don't have tow trucks for planes, do they?  I tried to get a photo, but couldn't get it to focus while driving. They looked exactly like 2 commercial airliners hooked together, one pulling the other. I can't find anything on the news about it.

Refueling is generally not done over populated areas.  That being said, there is only one area in NY that is classified as "designated refueling anchor" - that being north of Saratoga, most likely not in the Clifton Park area.

See the image: http://www.milaircomms.com/images/refuel_tracks_large.jpg

The box over the southern adirondack's is the one area permitted, with the approaches and directions reflected by the arrows (approach and departure).

It's not impossible, but unlikely it was occurring over Clifton Park (perhaps it just looked like that)

If you saw refueling, you've got great eyesignt - it's usually done at 30,000 feet.
