Gazette (6/27) "Racism, sexism alleged at GE". There are always & will always be people who bring their ignorance to work. There are people who see 'racism' everywhere, another manifestation of political correctness. $50,000,000 is a lot of money so the charges (suit) must be adjudicated. Now for the bad news. General (Generous) Electric does have a history of discrimination. A cousin of mine who lived in Ploutney, Vermont, his wife worked at GE Schenectady as an engineer. They all 'engineers of course'. Cousin & wife were Polish (Catholic), she had a German sounding maiden name, my cousin wisely advised his bride to keep the 'German' name. She did & she kept her job. Scotch & German Protestants have ALWAYS been favored at GE. Was it a Masonic thing? Secret order of 'Orangemen'? Catholic haters? No Jew need apply also. A few years ago I was at Jay Peak during a blizzard on St. Pat's Day. No one does Corn Beef & Cabbage like Germans. The place we stayed at had a German flavor & many of our fellow guest were former SS (Nazi soldiers) who served in Otto Skorzeny commando units on the Eastern Front. One big fellow, in his 80's, still fit as a fiddle was wounded in action around Bialstyok, Poland. The birthplace of my grandfather, made me feel good like maybe one of my kinsmen shot the Nazi. At any rate the 'old fellows' all had one thing in common besides having been X SS. They were retired from GE. The 'German' thing. I know, it is all circumstantial. When the civil rights industry gets done milking GE for $50,000,000, an investigative reporter, if any exist, should look into GE's bag of dirty tricks. Maybe the German's were supermen. At Jay Peak I saw numerous men 80+, still very active skiers, all X SS. General Electric is not what people think it is & it never was. |
