Just what is the reasoning behind a 2 year term for the super? I brought this up last year, and don't know if I ever got a reasonable explanation? seem to remember a lot of nasty back and forth with the resident moron, but no answers.

Town Supervisors (and all town elected officials) in New York State at one time were only allowed to be elected to a 2 year term and most towns have stayed with that term.  At some point, the law was changed which allows the voters of a town to change the 2 year term to a 4 year term.   Rotterdam voted at some point (during the 1990's) and approved 4 year terms for Town Clerk, Town Councilpersons and Receiver of Taxes but they rejected the 4 year term for Town Supervisor and Highway Superintendent.

It is something that COULD be changed -- but it there is a legal process for doing that.

I really think it should be changed...................seems to me in the scheme of things that the super's office hold's a bit more importance than the other town offices...........super get's elected and gets sworn in Jan. 1................there must be some sort of learning curve just figuring out what's going on and by the time a new super gets up to speed on that and implementing his/her own policies a good portion of the year is gone............a good part of the 2nd year needs to be spent over reelection, primaries etc. really taking the focus away from governing.....................I would think that to get some type of continuity in government it would be better for the super to have a 4 year term leaving 2 full years to concentrate wholly on town issues......................seems logical to me....................and if there is a legal process why not set it in motion? why do things always have to be status quo?

You must be mistaken.  If you're close enough to hear him, you're no where near the city, even though he champions it in every single thing that happens there.  In fact, he's even happy when bad things happen there because it's taking care of a bad situation.  A killing in the city?  It's one of the ones that the "fine men in blue" were always dealing with, so crime will go down now that they're no longer with us.  A business closes?  It's making room for a Metroplex improvement.  People moving out?  Making room for more students to come to the college that we as taxpayers can't afford to continue to pay for.

Holy crap!!!!! Did I just make a well thought out intelligent post and not once use some sort of insult?......................I'm slipping..............somebody slap me and bring me back to reality............

keep in mind all the supervisor does is
sign checks
balance the books
hire a confidential secatary
recommend hiring and firing
and the big one
organize the agenda for the town board meetings

the position has no little more power thasn than any other board member

the town board manages the town affairs as a whole

if we change our town status then the super would have more power

or we could have a the town board hire a town "manager" and let that person handle the day to day operation of the town on the town boards behalf

for me 4 years  -  yes

I think a 4 year term makes sense, too.  And the town did vote to extend the Town Clerk's and Receiver of Taxes' term from 2 years to 4 years ---- interestingly they voted DOWN the extension of the Supervisor's and the Highway Superintendent's term at the same time (same election).  

I may be mistaken but I believe that Mr. Constantino was Supervisor when the clerk and receiver terms were extended but the supervisor and highway terms were not.   Other than that, I am not sure why the voters approved the extension for some but not all of the town-wide elected officials.

Just seems like a house-keeping thing that should be addressed...........................then we could move on to the illegal sign placement issue......................oh oh, and maybe you could look into that movie screen-like structure on Mariaville Rd.

Changing the term of the Town Supervisor is not a "housekeeping" thing --- it would take a lot of work to organize residents, petition, etc.   Quite frankly - While I would vote YES to approve the extension,  I don't have the time nor the interest in taking up the issue.  Since you brought up the issue -- and seem so gungho about it -- then go ahead.
