Re June 2 letter, “Republican knees jerk too quickly over communism”: Thanks to Joe Seeman’s letter regarding MoveOn, communism and socialism. Once again, Americans (read “the Republicans”) have forgotten (or never knew) their history. Pre-WWI, socialism was a signifi cant political force in this country. In the 1912 election, socialist candidate Eugene V. Debs gathered nearly 1 million votes in the presidential election. With police used as strike busters, with thugs and outright criminals working for corporate America to keep American labor “in their place” (as early as the 1870s), with the likes of Andrew Carnegie collecting millions of dollars in profits while he cut his steelworkers’ pay from $1.50 a day to a $1 a day (sound familiar?), socialism became a viable political answer to the near-fascist state that existed in America in the second half of the 19th century. I would suggest several books on the topic here, but I know the FoxNews crowd hates facts, especially ones that run counter to their “facts.” So, a bit facetiously, Mr. Seeman suggests we can take a little (from Marx and others) without taking it all. A concept alien to many on the right: that even the “questionable” have a point of view, sometimes even worthy of our consideration. And with a wonderful nod to the outstanding (and, sadly, long gone) political satire group, Firesign Theater: Carry on, Mr. Seeman, all hail Marx and Lennon.
This isn't the 1870's and public sector unions make far more in pay and benefits than the private sector, this is a case where the pendulum has swung too far and needs to be adjusted.
Herbert should be happy he lives in NYS, Marxism and Lennonism is alive and well here.
Herbert can thank Bella Dodd and her worderful work orgainizing and infiltrating the NYS Teachers Union with Communist.
Quoted Text
Bella did not become a Communist overnight. Her primary goals were to help the teachers achieve proper salary and benefits and to help the “little people” – the forgotten man of the city who lived on the verge of destitution. She was not interested in the “dictatorship of the proletariat,” nor was she aware that they were all expendable chess pieces in the huge and dangerous game being orchestrated by Moscow.
Because of her expertise in organizing the unions, Bella was chosen Legislative Representative of the American Federation of Labor to the New York Legislature. This move made her all the more valuable to the Party. She became known in Albany and Washington as a force to be reckoned with. From there she moved up the ranks lobbying not only for the teachers, but for seamen, the unemployed, any group deemed “downtrodden.” The Communist Party became more and more powerful in the New York teachers unions as well as in the A. F. of L. itself.
Bella Dodd also recanted her communism and saw the evil in it, then wrote a book detailing exactly WHY communism should be outlawed as a violent and evil movement of hate, usurpation, treason and destruction. Try finding her book. I dare you you. It is impossible, since the publishers and the media have made sure it is not able to be gotten hold of without resorting to the internet and used book sources.
"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."
Bella Dodd also recanted her communism and saw the evil in it.
Too bad the damage she did working for the Communist Party before recanting it is still present today - both in the state education system and the Catholic Church. That is why New York politicians in both political parties only offer more state controls, regulations, and intervention. Most of the New York citizenry are pupils of Public School or Catholic School education. They have been schooled to look toward the state for solutions for the collective good, like all well schooled communist.
The funny thing is, Bella Dodd, who worked for the Soviet Communist Party, ran for office as a registered New York State Conservative Party member.
