Origin of Left & Right... I have often wondered why it is that Conservatives are called the "right" and Liberals are called the "left." By chance I stumbled upon this verse in the Bible: "The heart of the wise inclines to the right, but the heart of the fool to the left." Ecclesiastes 10:2 (NIV) Thus sayeth the Lord. Amen. Can't get any simpler than that.

No, and you should go sit in the corner for even repeating such nonsense.
I'm pretty sure that the "Free" republic website was what the were thinking of when they formed the "infinite monkey theorem", you know, the one that says if you put a million monkeys in a room, that eventually one will write a sentence? Though I'm not sure which ones are the monkeys, the "writers", or the readers? I'm inclined to think both.
"Right and Left", had it's origins in the French revolution, or at least that's what I learned in 10th grade history class, which incidentally, was at a Catholic high school, so I'm level sure that had that concept been borne of the bible they wouldn't have exactly let it pass by.

Yeah, you "stumbled across that verse in the bible". The only thing that freepers know of the bible, is that which has been cherry picked, taken out of context, or misquoted for them, so that it might better fit into their perversely blasphemous, decidedly un-Christ-like narrative.
If you knew the full context of that sentence you would be ashamed of yourself, and by the way, it was Solomon that said it, not the Lord. You might want to inform the other freepers of that at your next circle jerk.
Dear Yahoo!: How did the terms "left wing" and "right wing" come to describe being liberal and conservative? Michael Gowen, Michigan
Dear Michael: To answer this question, we turned to several handy sites that explore the origins of words. Regular readers of Ask Yahoo! might recognize these sites because we've consulted them for many etymological questions. Word Origins tells us the terms date back to pre-revolutionary France. In 1789, the French National Assembly was created as a parliamentary body to move control of issues, such as taxation, from the king to the citizenry.
Inside the chamber where the National Assembly met, members of the Third Estate sat on the left side and members of the First Estate sat on the right. The Third Estate consisted of revolutionaries, while the First Estate were nobles. Thus, the left wing of the room was more liberal, and the right wing was more conservative. In the next few years, the revolutionaries would take over and countless noble heads would roll, but that's another story.
Word Detective corroborates the idea that "left wing" and "right wing" date to the seating arrangements of the 1789 French National Assembly. The Mavens' Word of the Day also confirms the phrases' origin.
Word Wizard agrees on the origins of the terms and adds that they have a secondary layer of meanings. "Right" can also mean "correct," while the Latin term for "left" suggests "sinister" behavior. We suspect that those on the political right wing appreciate these connotations more than those on the left.
Thinking about it, the representatives in Congress actually sit by party, not by beliefs / theology, but looking from the back, facing the speaker at the deius, the Republicans, the more conservative of the two parties, would be in the "right wing," while the Democrats, the more liberal of the two parties, would be in the "left wing," although I'm sure someone would and could say tha generally, in this aspect, they would most likely be labeled from the position of the speaker, therefore, these terms would be backwards for the way that Congress is set up at this time.
RELAX.....CHILL OUT..............it was meant as a joke for God's sake!!! It was sent in an email and thought it would be fun posting it here!!
